Great Combo but Within Limits -
By: HuronRiverFlyFisher from Howell, MI
I have not tried the spinning gear only the fly gear. This is a light weight convenient package to take to smaller streams and not too windy of a day. Mending line works well as long as you have 20 ft or less line out. Longer line, the short rod can only mend part of it. I had difficulty with presentation placement which in part could be a learning curve. I am accurate with rods 8ft or longer. Larger/heavier flies turned over much better than lighter ones. I did not try dry flies yet. Open water with windy conditions, the spinning gear would work better otherwise this rod cannot power through the wind accurately. Overall quality is good and the fly rod and reel are well balanced. This is a great combo for travel or a quick trip to the local stream. It sets up easily and the lack of dots to align it did not interfere with quick setup.

I like the idea of the mix and match rod and reels. I wish there was an alignment dot on the rod sections. If I had purchased each part of this combo separately, it would have cost more than this sales price. I had hoped this combo would work for traveling or backpacking, but instead I will keep it at my fishing cabin and allow guests to borrow it.

Great product! Perfect to leave in the trunk of the car just in case!
Excellent Travel Combo -

Good quality spinning and fly reels are a big plus to this travel fly and spinning rod and reel combo. Travel carry case is lightweight and has sufficient extra space for a few light tackle items. All in all a great value for the money.

I bought this for my Dad and he loved it, he is getting back in to fishing and he liked the quality plus the ability to spin and fly fish.
Nice set up -

I received this a few days ago and have not had the opportunity to try it out. The rod is very nice and the two handles make a smooth transition from fly to spin. I was a little disappointed that there was no information about the reels. No direction or breakdown of the reels. I believe that should be included with the set.
Great combo rod! -

I live in Almont, Colorado and this rod is perfect for the Taylor River.
Just what I needed.... -
By: SamiJB from Montana
Needed a rod that was smaller than what I've been taking backpacking with me. This fit the bill and is pretty versatile. I fly fish most often, but every once in a while, cast. The cast rod I had was old, rusty, and falling apart. Not had much of a chance to use it, yet, but quality looks good. Case is nice, but bulky, you'll need something else if you really want to take this much farther than from the car.

Only used the spin outfit so far but great piece of gear. Carry case is a bonus. Thanks Orvis.
Excellent All-Around Outfit -

This is a quality outfit with flexibility for different fishing conditions. I like that there are two separate butt sections for the different reels, rather than trying to make a compromised handle that will accept either reel. As a fly rod it has a fairly stiff, fast action. Works well as a spinning rod. The reels are well made and smooth.
