Picture this. Here and on our nearby rivers, you can nymph fish or swing flies to large and powerful steelhead 12 months a year. Starting in the late spring of May and June, early mornings will find you chasing a May run of chrome-silver steelhead, which the Muskegon is famous for – short sleeves and steelhead is a great combo. By June, the mayfly hatch is in full swing. Sulphurs, gray drakes, isonychias, with caddis and blue-winged olives tossed in, will provoke the trophy browns and rainbows into consistent heavy feeding on a nightly basis.
In the fall, trophy Chinook salmon will be pooled up in September. Our lake-run browns run from October through January. From December through April, our fantastic winter-strain Michigan steelhead is our love and joy, regardless of snow and sub-zero wind chills.
Perhaps most exciting is the Newaygo Riverbank Development, which is the home to the Gray Drake Resort. The sporting traveler can enjoy the comfortable luxury of the Rocky Mountain Log Home-built Gray Drake Lodge and its outstanding accommodations, cuisine, Scandinavian spa complex, state-of-the-art conference facilities, riverside bike and hiking trails, as well as an Orvis-designed sporting clays school.
