Local Fly Fishing Information
Colorado has a lot to offer for great fly-fishing. Our area is known for its outstanding trout fishing in both the major rivers and many backcountry lakes and streams. There are also a great variety of warm-water fishing options. With the exception of some seasonal closures in specific areas to protect spawning fish, the fishing season is open year round in Colorado, so bring along a fly rod if you’re family is planning a ski trip. The areas listed here are just some of the most popular spots to fish close to Denver.
One important thing to realize when coming to fish in Colorado is that there is a lot of private property along many of our rivers and it is the anglers’ responsibility to know whether or not they are on public lands. Many public areas are well marked, but some areas are more difficult to distinguish between public and private lands, so pick up an access map before you head out to the river.
