The western states in the US have a well-earned reputation for the best fly fishing in America, particularly in Montana. We offer 35 Montana fly fishing trips or guide/lodge services because of the popularity of fly fishing there. Colorado and Florida also offer extraordinary fly fishing opportunities, and we highly recommend taking one of our fishing trips to either state or booking an Orvis-endorsed partner for the best fishing experience in either destination.
Most anglers consider the American West (Montana, Colorado, Wyoming) to have the best trout fly fishing in the US, but in our expert opinion, so do Florida, Vermont, and Alaska offer equally spectacular trout fishing.
The best trout fishing in the Southeast US is a matter of opinion, but many people regard the North Carolina mountain rivers to be the best. Georgia and South Carolina also have excellent trout waters.
The best fly fishing on the East Coast is mostly a matter of opinion. However, the Florida Keys tops our list, as does Vermont, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and the Low Country in South Carolina and Georgia.
Since the US has so many climates, you can fly fish all year long, with different months in different areas bringing the best fly fishing conditions for the season. Typically, anglers consider March through October to be prime fly fishing months in the US, but November through January also offer outstanding opportunities in the Florida Keys.
The Western states of Montana, Colorado, and Wyoming have the best trout fishing.
Yes, both Washington state and Oregon have good fly fishing, and we have several endorsed partners in the Pacific Northwest to get you on prime waters.
The best time of year for fly fishing in Alaska is during the salmon runs, from May to September.
Our United States fly fishing trips connect you with iconic rivers, remote lodges, and trusted guides from Alaska to the Florida Keys. These trips aren’t just about the fish. You’ll also make friends and memories along the way. In Montana, cast into the Madison, Big Hole, and Bighorn with Orvis-endorsed guides who know every bend. Whether you’re looking for a full-on fishing week or a single day on the water, you’ll find what you’re after out West. Saltwater fly fishing in Florida is fast-paced, visual, and full of surprises. Stalk the flats, creeks, and mangroves for tarpon, permit, and bonefish with guides who understand the tides and where the fish like to be. Alaska delivers on remote wilderness, with salmon, char, and rainbows in clear rivers under big skies. Some days you might cast beneath a volcano or pass a bear on the hike in. On the East Coast, our partners in Virginia and the Blue Ridge Mountains can get you into streams full of rainbows, browns, and brookies, then back to a lodge where you can put your feet up. Wherever you head, these trips pair you with water, guides, and places you won’t forget.
