The Story

An Orvis exclusive. Never again guess at the temperature of your game meats. The hand-held, battery-operated Thermicator offers precise, accurate, and instantaneous temperature measurements through the integration of state-of-the-art liquid crystal display (LCD, electronic, and thermocouple technologies. A full range of digital readings, teamed with the simplicity of analog targets, are easy to read in the large LCD display. The digital electronic circuits that energize Thermicator are engineered for optimum range, accuracy, precision, battery life, and reliability. Temperature is sensed only at the extreme tip of the needle probe, giving the true internal food temperature at your desired immersion point. The adjustable needle probe, which can be extended to 3.5", penetrates foods with no unsightly markings. Its ability to check temperatures of “doneness” and critical temperatures in bacteria-control areas, such as bone joints, helps ensure proper food preparation. Molded, reinforced, impact-resistant plastic housing. Leigh H. Perkins's Game Cookery Based on Internal Temperature included. Spot clean. Made in USA.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Temperature Precision Like No Other I have used the Thermicator II for about 20 years both for outdoor grilling and in kitchen use and the temperate accuracy and sensitive it deliveries is a must for precision cooking. If you're looking for the ultimate in temperature control that is a workhorse and won't let you down then look no further. There are a lot of cheaper products you can buy but I know this thermocouple is the real deal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth Every Penny and More! We bought the Thermicator II a couple of weeks ago and use it regularly. We thought of it for meat but it allows us to judge done-ness perfectly for fish and poultry too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ideal Gift for the meat lover A great gift (for men in particular) is one that he would rarely by himself. This is the finest meat thermometer ever made! I've become so addicted to mine I sometimes hesitate to cook without it. Because meat cooks from the outside in, the outside is often overdone and the inside underdone. This tells you what the inside temp is. It does not average the temp over the length of the probe, it just reads the temp at the tip - which you can set for any depth in the meat you want. They last forever. I've had mine for 20+ years. You'll never spend this much on a meat thermometer, but some lucky offspring will inherit for free.
