Imagine you are the only person on a remote wilderness lake. Hear the smooth sound of your cast. Feel the quick snap of the strike and the strength of a trophy fish at the end of your line. That angling experience is at its best at Hawk Lake Lodge in Northwestern Ontario. We have spared nothing to ensure that each visit exceeds your expectations.

What is Provided to Customer

The Lodge has all the equipment necessary to have a wonderful experience. Orvis fly and spinning rods are available to use free of charge. We have a full fly-shop with all tackle needed to land the trophy fish that swim our waters.

Our boats are well maintained 16 and 18 foot Lunds and Crestliners. On the main lake all boats have trolling motors, and for the fly-fishermen our larger boats have casting decks, full electronics, leather seats and plenty of comfort.

Region/Terrain Where You Fish

Large, private lakes fished in comfortable boats that are located throughout the 40 square miles and 19 private lakes the lodge has access to.

Typical Weather by Season

Early season has cooler evenings (in the 50s) and warm days (60s). June sees warmer weather in the 70s and 80s. Rainfall increases, but systems are quick to move through.

We have long daylight hours from 4 AM - 10 PM in June and July.

July & August turns warmer in the 80s and low 90s.

Late August and September has fall creeping in as the leaves begin to turn. Crisp nights (50s) return.

Species You Fish for by Season

Smallmouth bass: These are among the most sporting of fish found anywhere and are the predominant species available on our lakes. They are best caught with 5- to 7-weight fly-fishing rods using poppers and other top-water presentations as well as streamers, Clousers and sub-surface flies (e.g. crayfish/leech patterns), Dahlberg Divers, Wooly Worms, Wooly Buggers, Marabou Muddlers, Deer hair bugs, Sculpins, Clouser Minnows, Gerbubble Bugs and small poppers, hook sizes, 2 to 6.

Trophy walleye: 8- to 10-weight rods with sinking line, fishing in 6-12 feet of water using leech patterns. These walleye reach record size (30 inches and larger) and are numerous on the lake system. Fish under 25 inches are uncommon.

Northern pike: These aggressive, fun to catch fish are found on many of our lakes. There are almost no conditions that prevent these fish from cooperating. Northerns vary greatly in size. Therefore, no single recommendation with respect to tackle can be made. On smaller pike up to 30 inches in length, 6- to 7-weight rods work well. However, if large to trophy sized northerns are on the menu, an upgrade in tackle is in order. In these situations 7- to 9-weight rods are required with top-water poppers as well as large pike streamers fished sub-surface. Dahlberg Divers, Muddler Minnows, Sculpins and colorful streamers in 1/0 to 4 with a short wire leader. Any of these or a combination of these flies are good choices for fishing northern pike.

Lake Trout: 7- to 10-weight rods with streamers. Early and late season (May and September) are the best times to target lake trout on the fly.

Lodging, Meals, and Accommodations

You will have private accommodations in lakeside cabins from 1-4 bedrooms. Each cabin has at least one full private bath and is fully carpeted and electrically heated. Amenities include many windows overlooking the lake, large, well-furnished living rooms, ceiling fans, small refrigerators, microwaves (for late night popcorn or other goodies) coffee makers and private, lakeside decks. The living rooms are furnished with comfortable chairs, sofas, and reading lamps.

We have cabins of all sizes and can accommodate groups from just the single fisherman looking to sneak away, to large parties of friends. Cabins range from one to four bedrooms with one and two private bathrooms and there is plenty of room for everyone. At night relax on the couch with a good book or grab a movie from our extensive library. Down comforters adorn your bed with fresh linens to ensure a restful sleep and prepare you for another day on the water. There is also a workout center, 3 hot-tubs, sauna, game room with pool table, darts and poker table.

We start with fresh walleye fillets and then add all the accoutrements including onions, potatoes, beans, corn, oil, fresh lemon, fruit, cookies and a variety of spices as well as all of the necessary utensils. There are many lunch spots on our lakes. You stop whenever you're hungry, build a small fire (we provide the wood) and cook a delicious, hot meal to your liking.

Dinner
Start with homemade soup and breads with a fresh salad each evening. Entrees include prime rib, BBQ chicken, roast Cornish game hen, grilled shrimp and vegetable kabob, honey-fried walleye, capellini primavera, BBQ baby pork ribs, sautéed chicken breasts, grilled T-bone steaks, bacon wrapped fillets, baked stuffed pork chops and specialty pastas. If you prefer to fish later in the evening as the bite is just too hard to resist no problem. We will gladly deliver your meal to you in your cabin and you can eat at your leisure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another Great Trip After fishing at Hawk Lake Lodge for the first time in 2018, we thought how could anything top that? The return trip was even better!! The service as usual could not be beat. It is the equivalent of staying in a 5 star hotel with a concierge. The food was amazing again, the shore lunches can't be beat. The staff is so incredibly friendly and helpful, that alone makes the trip worthwhile. Now onto the fishing.... Once you dial into the general pattern of where the smallmouth are on this lake, you can pound them all day long. We had several fish over 19" with a lot of big chunks in the mix. We don't target pike but had several throughout the week. The Walleye fishing was spectacular. Every night we had a fish over 26", this trip yielded many 27"+ fish, one 30" and even a 31"! For the most part we were on them all week, some mornings or evenings would be slower/faster than others. When it was on, it was incredible. At one point we had a double walleye catch both fish over 26". We had yet another amazing trip and can't wait to be back again in June.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great year after year!!! Simply put, year after year Hawk Lake Lodge delivers incredible fishing, hospitality, and accommodation. This was our 4th time visiting Ted and Hawk Lake Lodge and we immediately signed up to come back for our 5th. The lake is beautiful and the fishing was excellent. My bother, father and I ALL set personal records this past visit. Both my father and brother caught their biggest Walleyes ever and I caught my biggest Smallmouth ever. I cannot recommend this place enough!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from World Class Fishing and Lodge I've done a father-son trip to Hawk Lake Lodge a couple times, and it's been amazing. The accommodations are great, including a hot-tub in your cabin! Always a great way to relax after an incredible day of fishing on the beautiful lakes. I'm an avid fisherman (but not a good fisherman!), and I can say that I have never fished a place anywhere with the incredible action we enjoy at Hawk Lake Lodge. Our group enjoys the smallmouth topwater action the most, but we also love to catch walleye, and yes, even pike. This trip was in June of 2019. We had terrific and exceptionally knowledgeable guides who got our kids on fish all day. The equipment is first class from boats to rods/reels and tackle. Meals are great and served by folks who are genuinely happy to work at Hawk Lake Lodge. Following every epic day of fishing, we relax and share stories of our adventures with other lodge guests at happy hour. Please do yourself a favor and make sure you're at every happy hour. There's something special about sharing a drink and a "fish tale" with your fellow anglers. All props and respect to the Hawk Lake Owners (Ted & Family), and all the incredible staff and guides who make our stay enjoyable and so memorable each year. You can count on us making our annual trip in 2020!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Lodge is only excelled by the fishing Having experienced Hawk Lake Lodge for the past 12 years, it is no surprise to me that this venue is unequaled for service, facility and, of course, fishing. Top notch in all aspects of the outdoor experience. One expects this from an Orvis approved lodge, but Ted goes above and beyond to ensure that nothing is left to chance. Make this destination a priority if you enjoy fishing and the Canadian Shield experience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Always a Great Time This was my 17th trip to Hawk Lake and without a doubt, the most amount of smallmouth ever caught. Wolf Lake did not disappoint and between the four of us, we caught over 120 bass in one day. The equipment, lodging, food and yes, fishing continues to be world class. My son is joining for the first time in 2020 and I can't wait to create even more memories.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing fishing and excellent accommodations I doubt if one could find a better fishing lodge than Hawk Lake Lodge. I have had the pleasure to experience this stellar lodge for 33 years now with family and friends. The fishing is excellent, the cabins are roomy and comfortable. The food and service is outstanding. The boats are always maintained and have the latest depth/fish finders. As if it is possible, there is always some type of upgrade(s) to cabins, boats, motors etc.each year that just adds to enhancing the overall pleasure that Hawk Lake Lodge offers. Whether interacting with the dock hands, kitchen staff or the owners you will find that they are knowledgeable, personable and do their best to provide an exceptional experience. Needless to say we are booked again for the 2020 season.
