FAQS

Orvis’s lifelike tactical fishing flies are thin profiled and sink quickly to where the fish are because of their tungsten bead heads, but they're designed to avoid getting hung up on the bottom. They were created for Euro/contact nymphing but can be used just as effectively with a traditional floating indicator rig.

The tactical flies available at Orvis are all barbless.

Our most popular tactical flies are the TH Duracell Jig, the Spanish Bullet Jig, the Tactical Soft Hackle Pheasant Tail Jig, and the Tunghead Hot Spot Pheasant Tail Jig.

We recommend stocking your fly box with several tactical flies, including the TH Duracell Jig, the Spanish Bullet Jig, the Tactical Soft Hackle Pheasant Tail Jig, and the Tunghead Hot Spot Pheasant Tail Jig. The Tungsten Jig Bugger, Tactical Sob-Czech, Tungsten Twisted Tactical May, and Tactical TH Copper John Jig are all essential flies as well.

Lifelike Tactical Flies for Fly Fishing

Orvis tactical fishing flies are tied on a jig hook and beautifully crafted to realistically imitate major trout food sources under the water’s surface. The tactical hook is barbless and features a claw point, so you can get fish off the hook quickly and efficiently for better catch-and-release fishing. Our lifelike tactical fishing flies are thin profiled and sink quickly to where the fish are because of their tungsten bead heads, but they're designed to avoid getting hung up on the bottom. Particularly effective in tailwaters, our tactical flies are magnets for 'bows.
