The Story

Milford Hills is an Orvis-endorsed wingshooting and hunting grounds in southern Wisconsin's Johnson Creek. Wingshooting enthusiasts will enjoy choosing from 13 hunt fields that range in size from 30 to 40 acres. Each features a different layout and topography, with cover that includes grain sorghum, switchgrass, corn, and natural cover. Field amenities include groomed walking paths that are maintained throughout the hunt season, natural field boundaries, and in field bird pick up during your hunt. Our field service team will also clean all of your harvested birds to be ready for your departure.

Milford Hills' guests will have the pleasure of hunting beautifully plumed and long-tailed ringneck pheasants, along with chukar partridge and Bobwhite quail. Our birds are noted for being hearty and exceptionally strong in flight. Our cover and field habitat are unparalleled. Upland bird hunting at Milford Hills is equivalent to chasing wild birds in native habitat; this is what sets us apart from other hunting facilities in the state of Wisconsin and the Midwest.

Each of our hunt fields offers slightly different topography. The property consists of rolling hills, waterways, ponds, and clusters of small wooded areas. Guests remark about our easy walking paths (maintained throughout the entirety of the hunt season), and they are especially appreciative of these during the winter months.

Upon entering our main clubhouse, guests are greeted with a warm and welcoming Midwestern atmosphere of rustic décor and hospitality. Talented local Amish builders used exposed pine timbers and beams and half log siding to craft our main lodge and Trading Post Pro Shop. You and your guests will appreciate the warmth of our wood-burning fieldstone fireplaces, the rustic charm of our Amish-built furniture, and authentic elk horn chandeliers, all of which express the ambiance of the Wisconsin Northwoods.

The knowledgeable and experienced staff at our Trading Post Pro Shop can help outfit you with the latest Orvis upland hunting gear. We also have a wide selection of new and used firearms in stock from Caesar Guerini, Fabarm, Benelli, and Beretta. We can take care of your shotgun with a full field strip and clean and have it ready for your next hunt. The Pro Shop also has a variety of over/under shotgun rentals and ammunition. We carry an assortment of safety glasses and ear and eye protection. Take advantage of our private shooting instruction to hone your skills for on the course or in the field!

Orvis is pleased to offer our travel customers access to two valuable services: Global Rescue travel membership and IMG Signature Travel Insurance℠.

Gear Recommendations:

As the seasons change, so does the recommended field gear for upland hunting at Milford Hills. In the early part of the season, enjoy warmer temperatures, and come prepared with lighter field gear. As we move into the winter months, be sure to come equipped with leather boots and heavier weight apparel. Rubber boots are helpful for the spring as the fields begin to thaw and the snow melts.

Most hunters elect to carry a 12-gauge over/under in the field. We welcome all 12, 20 or sub-gauge shotguns in the field. Five shot, lead ammunition is the preferred ammunition. Our Trading Post Pro Shop carries our preferred ammunition, that way you don’t have to pack it for your trip.
