Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best Video, but tools are not great. Overall this is a great kit to begin tying flies. The video is the best I have seen after view a number. While doing research I found that many tyers advised against buying a cheep vice or tools from India or Pakistan so I was surprised to find that both the vice and scissors were made in Pakistan. I tied the first few flies on the vice and had trouble with getting the hooks set and the vice would not stay set for long. My friend gave me a Regal vice so I am doing much better without fighting the vice and would have done better had the Pakistan vice been of better quality. I recommended this product to a friend, but would what them to know that the vice and tools are not the best.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great kit Everything I needed to get started in fly tying. All feathers, hooks, hackles ... were bagged and clearly marked. The instructional DVD was extremely helpful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great beginner kit I received this as a Christmas present this year, and I have loved it. All the videos are clear and provide step by step instructions. I am about 90% complete with the kit. It provides a variety of flies to fill your fly box. Warning you will get addicted to tying using this kit. For anyone on the fence about how to get started I would highly recommend this. It is a starter kit but you have plenty of material and incremental learning techniques to get anyone started.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beginner fly tier? He is on his way! I was 60 years old when I purchased a very similar “kit” from Orvis to see if I was capable and if I would be interested. Thanks to the education and tutorials on the Orvis site, I have found a wonderful goal late in my life. Fly tying and introducing my grand children to fly fishing and most recently, introducing my grandson to fly tying. Seeing his excitement the morning after his first session tying a Griffiths Gnat and a mop fly, I selected the Orvis Kit for him since it had served me so well. I see lots of flies in our future. Highly recommend it for those getting started.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from PERFECT START UP I have had my eye on this kit for awhile and my wife gifted it to me for Christmas. They ran a great deal on it and the value is substantial for what you can produce with the kit. The DVD is very helpful and a good way to educate a rookie fly tier like myself.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for getting started in fly tying. This tying kit is great for getting started with fly tying. It turned what would've been an afterthought of a hobby into something I'm highly invested in. Tim Flager does a great job on explaining his guides for tying flies. No other fly tying guides have been able to show in a better way. The cinematography is superb, and thanks to Tim, I have been able to turn my once mediocre flies into something I feel confident that can catch fish. I am only giving it four stars because of using a disc instead of a download link, or a HARD DRIVE.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from No dubbing Nice tools and materials, but no dubbing. Well done video instructions, but without dubbing material it is a bit challenging to ty several of the patterns. A nice addition to the standard inventory of a premier kit would be to add wax to help work with the dubbing. It was disappointing to open this gift and find the kit without a key material.
