Where are the nearest airports?
The nearest commercial airport is GTR Columbus, MS (30-minute drive). The nearest private airport is West Point, MS (15-minute drive). Airport transportation is available.
How many guns can we combine in one party?
For upland bird hunting, four maximum (per guide) including any observers.
The Tower shooting requires 10 guns and can accommodate up to 20 shooters, because they are rotating through ten different double-positions as the shoot progresses.
How old do hunters have to be?
Minimum age requirement for hunters is 10 years old, we prefer a hunter safety course be taken by the hunter
Do you offer shooting instruction?
Yes, we do offer shotgun shooting instruction. Our Orvis-certified professional shooting instructor is available for beginning and novice shooters, as well as more advanced shooters who want to polish their skills. All shooting instruction requires an appointment.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellation within 60 days of the hunt deposit is non-refundable. If the balance is paid, the balance will be applied to a future hunt at a later date. Cancellation within 30 days is non-refundable.
Your booking is very important to us, and we put a lot of time and effort into being prepared for your visit. Cancellations and no-shows result in over-staffing and unnecessary expenses, which we would rather not pass on to our guests through higher prices. Please remember that this is a seasonal business with limited days (and particularly weekends) to schedule hunts. We will not over-book, so it is very difficult to fill the slot reserved for you with another guest's activities. It is an opportunity lost to us and to other guests.
Can I hunt with my own dog?
Yes, we encourage our guests to bring their dogs to Prairie Wildlife. We want to make certain you enjoy your hunt, and a big part of that is dog performance. You will have an abundance of opportunity to get your dog into a lot of birds. This may lead to sensory overload and a lot excitement for your dog. If they are lacking response to basic commands, or flushing birds out-of-range, we want you then to have the opportunity to continue the remainder of your hunt behind your guide's well-trained and experienced bird dogs. When staying overnight on-site kennels are available to shelter your dog at the lodge. Under no circumstances are dogs permitted inside the lodge. When not on a guided hunt, your dog must be in a kennel or on a leash and in your control at all times. Hunting dogs are not permitted to wander the property area because we have traps and snares set for predator control and do not want to risk injury to any dogs.
Can you tailor the adventure to suit the physical abilities of the hunters?
Yes, we cater to our hunter’s physical abilities and level of difficulty they wish to experience. Guests will find our hunting grounds are relatively flat and easy walking, but at times can become muddy.
Do you have meals available?
Yes. If you would like meals to accompany your visit, we need to know in advance. We do not have a restaurant on the premises. Reservations are required for any of the three delicious meals we serve. We have an excellent chef and an experienced kitchen staff. Special dietary needs can be accommodated with advance notification.
