Captain Steve can take you to the secluded marsh flats in the Palo Gaucho and Mid Lake areas exclusively with his special custom built GatorTail mud motor boat. This boat is like a four wheel drive vehicle. It can take you places that other boats can't. That's part of the adventure.
Captain Steve primarily targets black bass (catch, photo, and release) on the fly. The Captain will be taking you to proven fish locations where you can cast your fly to and around targeted areas (like Cypress trees, stumps, laydowns, lily pads, hydrilla, and aquatic vegetation) to catch a big black bass.
Seeking adventure, this type of fly-fishing trip is full of wildlife; bald eagles, gators, wild pigs, migrating birds, and if you look real hard you might see the Legend of Boggy Creek (skunk ape)!
A morning trip will start as you walk out your cabin door and see your Captain waiting at the water's edge. The Captain will do a safety orientation about the boat operation and safety gear. The boat will be making way to the backcountry to fly fish the flats in the darkness. The boat will come to rest in the fishing area, power poles down, all electrical power will be turned off and we will be sitting in complete darkness listening to the crickets and gazing at the stars above. That's what is so unique about Mudfish Adventures! While most guides are sitting on the dock waiting for first light, we are already on the fishing hole. When you hear the first fish break the surface, it's time to fish and make memories.
An evening trip is even more unique; the Captain will pick you up at the water's edge right outside your cabin. He'll do a safety orientation about the boat operation and safety gear. We will get underway to the backcountry to fly fish the flats where we will be casting a fly to targets like shaded areas, creek channels, and backwaters. As the evening starts to fade to dark, the Captain will point out wildlife going to roost - water birds, eagles, and alligators. We will continue to fish until sundown. That's prime time for a big bass strike. Now relax and enjoy the boat ride in because you might see something in the headlights. Next a nice dinner and some fellowship.
