The Story

The records show that George Hi Plantation, an original land grant by the King of England, has been hunted for Quail prior to the Civil War, and for the last 50 years, the DuBose family has caringly managed George Hi as a truly southern Quail hunting experience for guests, friends and family. The hunting operation is supported by almost 1200 acres of mature Quail habitat, experienced guides, well-trained hunting dogs, 5 stand for shooting clay targets, four bedroom Quail Cottage, eight bedroom Lake Lodge, private chef and dedicated staff to ensure guests enjoy the perfect southern hunting plantation experience. For Quail hunters, a covey rise over well-trained dogs is an exhilarating sight and the DuBose family remains committed to providing a unique Quail hunting experience. Every year, from October through March, the family opens this spectacular property to hunters from across the nation that come for some of the best Quail hunting in the southeast.

Orvis Customers are provided rooms with private baths in both our new lodge as well as in our four bedroom Quail Cottage. Three meals daily, stocked bar, cold drinks and light food in the field.

What is Provided to Customer

All vehicles, (ammunition available), breech loading guns, guides, dogs, cold drinks and light food in the field.

What Should Customers Bring?

Customers can bring breech loading shotguns (20 Ga. and 28 Ga recommended but not mandatory, no auto loading or pump guns in the field), light to heavy footwear, light rain coat, hunting or heavy twill pants, vest (can be provided) cap, glasses, gloves if desired.

Sample of Typical Trip

One to three day hunts include lodging, all meals, guides, dog and vehicles. Guests can arrived any time convenient to them, including the evening before their first hunt, starting on an afternoon or arriving on a morning to start their stay.

Off-Site Activities

Quail hunting, 5-stand targets shooting, Bass Fishing in the DuBose Lake, Wild Ducks during season.

Are guns available to use on-site?

Breech guns are the only guns used in the field and we do have a large selection of 20 and 28-ga. guns available at no charge.
