The Story

With nearly two decades of enthusiastic dedication to the art of fly fishing, Scott emerges as a seasoned guide and instructor. His journey began in Maryland, where his roots intertwined with the serenity of nature. Over the span of 26 years nestled in Breckenridge, CO, Scott's affinity for the great outdoors flourished, becoming inseparable from the essence of Colorado itself.

During his 16-year tenure as an Orvis-Endorsed head guide at Breckenridge Outfitters, Scott honed his craft, shaping experiences for countless enthusiasts. Venturing beyond borders, he led expeditions to Ascension Bay, Mexico, enriching his understanding of diverse fishing environments.

Over the last seven years, Scott has transitioned back to the East Coast alongside his cherished family, rekindling his connection with the waters of his upbringing. This return has allowed him to intertwine his lifelong passion with his calling to educate and guide others in the art of fly fishing, providing memorable experiences for his discerning clientele.

Fly fishing on the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers offers a unique blend of historical charm, scenic beauty, and diverse angling opportunities that set it apart from many other fisheries in the Mid-Atlantic. Here’s what makes each river special:

Potomac River

  • Diverse Species: Best known for smallmouth bass but also holds largemouth bass, sunfish, carp, catfish, and even shad during seasonal runs.
  • Tidal and Non-Tidal Options: Offers both slow, wide tidal stretches and fast-moving, rocky sections ideal for wading and targeting bass.
  • Accessible Yet Wild: Flows near urban areas like Washington, D.C., but also includes remote stretches (e.g., near Harpers Ferry) with little development and incredible scenery.
  • Spring Shad Runs: The American and hickory shad run in the spring is a bucket-list experience—fast action on light tackle, often near Fletcher’s Boathouse in D.C.

Shenandoah River

  • Iconic Smallmouth Bass River: Widely regarded as one of the best smallmouth bass rivers on the East Coast. Fish fight hard and are plentiful, especially in the South Fork.
  • Stunning Blue Ridge Backdrop: Winds through the Shenandoah Valley with mountain views and pastoral settings that are hard to beat.
  • Less Pressure: Compared to the Potomac, some sections of the Shenandoah see less angling pressure, especially on weekdays.
