The Story

Choose lodging at the only Orvis-Endorsed fly-fishing lodge in Arkansas, The White River Inn! Located in Cotter, AR, “Trout Capital of U.S.A.” The trout fishing season is year-round, and the views cannot be beat.

Equally important as the fishing and the scenery is the experience at the lodge. This is an all-inclusive experience, including home-cooked meals from scratch. Five-star quality cooking is the standard at The White River Inn. Each of the lodge’s suites is unique, comfortable and designed to be a home away from home.

The 7000-square ft. western red cedar lodge stands firmly on the edge of a 300-foot bluff high above the White River. People describe the views from the back deck as incredible and breathtaking. Bald eagles, hawks and ospreys glide by at eye level, almost close enough to touch. A multitude of hummingbirds and songbirds gather at their feeders daily. The deck is a birdwatcher's paradise!

By design, the beautiful décor and amenities put the White River Inn in a class by itself on the White River. But the White River itself is the reason why people come from all over the country to be here. The White is a year-round fishery with four species of trout. The fish count per mile is incredible, bordering on unbelievable. There is not a better river for beginners in the lower 48. But the huge browns are what bring ALL fisherman here to the White. More brown trout over ten pounds are caught and released, than any other single river in the World. "Seventy-five percent of our guests catch their Personal Best at our lodge." Fly fishing just doesn't get any better, and the beautiful Ozark scenery is another reason to visit.

A World Class Lodge, A World Class River, World Class Guides, World Class Food and World Class Service. These are our goals. Come as a guest, leave as a friend. Come see us at The White River Inn!

Orvis is pleased to offer our travel customers access to two valuable services: Global Rescue travel membership and IMG Signature Travel Insurance℠.

The Inn:

The White river inn is a 7000 square-ft lodge. It is a custom-built Western red cedar log lodge, reminiscent of the lodges out West. The logs are square 8 x12 logs, not round. It has six large bedrooms and 7 baths. They range from 450 sq. ft. to 1100 sq. ft. in size. Each room has an ensuite bathroom and four of them have jetted jacuzzi tubs. The bathrooms are all imported Italian tile with huge jetted showers and heavy glass walls.

All furnishings were custom made throughout the lodge in Mission Style and enormous over sized leather sofas and chairs are placed everywhere for your comfort and relaxation. Tasteful taxidermy and collectibles from around the world adorn the huge log walls. Picture a luxurious executive log home as opposed to a fishing lodge and you'll have the idea.

Food & Drink:

All of our packages include first-class meals, beer, wine and soft drinks. We do not serve hard liquor as part of our packages, but we are happy to procure your favorites at retail prices. We strive for our clients to remember the dining experience as much as the fishing.

What is Provided:

Our All Inclusive Packages are just that, "All Inclusive". We provide everything for you from the time you arrive until the time you leave.

Included: Meals, rods, tackle, guides, flies, drinks (excluding hard liquor), snacks, etc. are provided for you. Two meals at the lodge each day, one meal on the river.

There are a few things not covered: Sales tax, tips (guide and lodge), hard liquor, fishing licenses, rain gear (all boat fishing, waders not needed).

Gear Recommendations:

If you like to bring your own gear, here is what we use:

Nymphing and dries: 5 or 6 wt. rod, 9 or 10 ft. length, WFF line. Streamers: 7 or 8 wt.rod , 9 ft. length, fast action, full sinking line, or sink tip. Our guides' favorites are 6 weight, 10 ft. for nymphing, 8 wt., 9 ft. for streamers. Bring what you fish with best. Average trout 1 to 3 lbs. Nymph size 14-18.

What to Bring:

Wide brimmed hat, sun glasses, camera and camera case, waterproof case for phone, sunscreen, sun gloves, rain gear top and bottoms, layers of clothing, including warm clothes even in the summer.

Season:

The White River Inn is open year round, and the White River fishes well all year. Each season has its hatches or "bite", but the fishing is always good. Being a tailwater fishery the river is never "blown out". In 15 years, we have never lost a day to a blown-out river. If there is lightning, we get off of the river until it passes. For our guests, safety is always first!

Species:

The White River has seven species of trout. We have rainbows, browns, cutthroats (fine spot), bonneville cutthroats, golden trout, brook trout and the beautiful tiger trout. The browns are all wild-spawned and the other three species are stocked. For "species" hunters, we also have a strain of wild-spawned, fast growing "Bonneville cutthroats" in the nearby Norfork River.

Region/Terrain:

The White river flows directly through the middle of the Ozark Mountains. The scenery is pretty all year round. Spring and fall are particularly beautiful with the foliage. It is a big river and a dynamic, changing, river. The dam has eight generators and they open and close daily due to power demands and flood control.

All types of wildlife and birds are spotted daily on the river. It is a naturalist's Mecca with deer, turkey, groundhogs, armadillos, and a plethora of other birds and mammals seen regularly.

Typical Weather:

We have four distinct seasons here in the Ozarks, but none are extreme as in the AZ desert or the high mountains in Montana and Idaho. Spring 45 to 75 F, summer 65 to 90, fall 40 to 70, and winter 30 to 60. Generally speaking, the weather is always fishable and most of the time comfortable. Dressing in layers is always a good idea.
