The Story

Enlist the services of the Orvis-endorsed guides at Wyoming Wings and Waters on your fly-fishing trip to Wyoming. We are confident your experience with us will be truly remarkable. We don't want to just put you on fish, we want to educate you on the methods of fishing our rivers. We are staffed small to make sure that each of our guides has a true passion for the art of fly fishing. Our guides will take their time with you, ensuring that you learn not only about the best way to catch fish, but also learn about our incredible fisheries. We also pride ourselves in providing gourmet riverside lunches that have left past guests talking about it for years after. The effort and pride we put into a day's work came about when our owner Ryan was tired of seeing lazy guides floating through their day. Even the "good" guides would have the rods rigged up, hand them to the client, tell them to cast there, catch a fish, and repeat. Sure, by the end of the day that boat probably caught a ton of fish, but there was little effort and no meaning to the day. That's why Ryan started Wyoming Wings and Waters, with the promise to provide an experience that shows why we have a passion for fly fishing.

Highlights:

  • Rainbow, brown, and native cutthroat trout
  • Fish the historic Bighorn and Shoshone Rivers
  • Our friendly and knowledgeable guides are confident in providing you with an exceptional experience
  • Rates start at $350 for a half-day wade
  • Fishing season runs all year long, with the best fishing in the spring and late fall

Orvis is pleased to offer our travel customers access to two valuable services: Global Rescue travel membership and IMG Signature Travel Insurance℠.

Most of our guests provide their own food and lodging, but we do have limited lodging options for guests who want that provided.

We Provide:

  • Fly rods and reels
  • Waders and boots
  • Flies and tackle
  • Gourmet handcrafted shore lunches
  • Snacks and non-alcoholic drinks
  • Shuttles to and from the river
  • Depending on the time of year, our full-day trips will start around 7 AM and end around 5 PM.

There are plenty of activities outside of fishing to enjoy in our area, including:

  • Buffalo Bill Center of the West
  • Wyoming Dinosaur Center
  • Pictographs and petroglyphs
  • Yellowstone National Park

We operate anywhere from Cody to Thermopolis to Ten Sleep. Outside of Cody you will fish the beautiful Shoshone River. Stand in water that is flowing from the world-famous Yellowstone National Park. The water is fast and the walking is rough and rocky. We suggest a float trip if you don't think you're capable of handling the terrain. Outside of Thermopolis you will fish the historic Bighorn River. Take in the beautiful views of the juniper-filled red cliffs while hooking into fish that can range well over 20 inches in length. Though the terrain is mild, we believe a float trip would give you the best opportunity here. Outside of Ten Sleep you will fish within the canyon walls of the gorgeous Big Horn Mountain range. The terrain is steep, rocky, and slick. We do not offer float trips here, so we suggest a good pair of boots and a walking stick for those up for the walk.

Can I bring my own gear?

We always welcome anyone who would like to use their own equipment during their trip. The guide will always have plenty of flies and tackle as well as spare rods and reels.

What time of year is the best fishing?

In general, spring and fall, but there are certain locations on the Shoshone River that provide incredible fishing in July.

Are we able to have three people in a boat if only two are fishing?

Your safety is our number one concern. With that said, there is a maximum of two people in the boat excluding the guide.

Am I allowed to bring my dog on the boat?

We do understand that some of you are traveling with dogs and do not have arrangements in place for when you go on your fishing trip. We do allow well-behaved dogs to accompany you during the trip. Please remember you are responsible for all damage the dog may cause during your trip.
