The Story

The Pheasant Tail Nymph is a standard go-to nymph on most any river in the country. Guides all over swear by soft hackle patterns because they work. Add some soft hackle for movement and a tungsten bead to get it down quickly and this little nymph becomes a monster. This pattern is a wonderful dropper when the hatch is on.

Color: Natural.

Sizes: 12, 14, 16.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Proven fish catcher A must have in any nymph selection. Soft hackles over a pheasant tail body, with a tungsten bead head. Proven combo. This fly catches fish.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome tie! Great soft hackle pattern for swinging - bead gives it just the right amount of weight - just swung it during march brown hatch and caught a beautiful rainbow

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great point nymph The tungsten head makes this a great fly to use on the point in a dual nymph rig. With a dropper such as a small CJ nymph there is no need for a split shot to get the rig down and that makes for much more tangle free casting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Go to When I need a take from weary fish, I use this as my "go to" fly. In size 18 seems to work best for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great all round fly This fly will catch trout on every stream I have tried it. Especially if it looks like there is nothing hatching I can usually temp a few to take this fly.
