The Story

Our bestselling Upland Hunting Softshell Jacket brings hunters the perfect combination of moisture management, briar protection, breathability, and mobility. Unrestricted shooting movement was at top of mind when we designed the fit and details of this jacket. The low-profile, Napoleon-style pockets have been improved to lie flat on both sides to cater to both right- and left-handed shooters. The tightly woven shell stands up to brush and is now DWR-treated for additional water resistance. Inside, the shell features a soft brushed tricot liner. Blaze accents have been increased to over 1000 sq. inches for greater safety afield. External contour cuffs protect the back of your hands and the internal wind cuffs cut the breeze and keep out debris. Underarm zips allow for extra ventilation. Adjustable drawstring in hem.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A really great jacket. Only missing one feature. I love these jackets, and I have one in each color! The side vents are great for keeping you cool and it's durable keeps you dry. The only thing this needs to be perfect is a small inside pocket. Would be a most welcom addition.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from covers it all Use this jacket to hunt grouse and woodcock in PA and pheasants in SD, multiple year use. Jacket holds up well, windproof. Can layer underneath on real cold days. Arm pit zippers are key on warmer days. Have the pants also, it is my go to outfit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent gear!! This is an extremely high end hunting jacket. It is light weight with a very soft inner lining. It is thin so with just a t-shirt and long sleeve T it would probably be good down to 10 degrees if the wind was only around 4 mph. At 20-25 degrees with an 18 mph wind it might get chilly. I bought it for coyote hunting in mid Michigan. I am 6' 3 1/2" and 250 lbs. I bought an XL and it fits perfectly with one layer of shirt. I have broad shoulders and it is mildly snug in the shoulders. I wanted to be able to layer a t-shirt, light weight long sleeve T and a heavier long sleeve T when it gets real windy so I returned it for a 2XL. The included pictures are of the XL. The XL would be perfect if I didn't want to put on a couple of layers. Others have said the sleeves are tight. I do not have real big fore arms and the sleeves are a slim fit; not bad with one shirt but I'm hoping the 2XL with have a little more room for layering. After all of that I love this jacket; it just looks, feels and screams quality. Great job ORVIS!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from all the features I've been looking for Replaced a 20 yr Mountain Hardware jacket that I wear 3 1/2 seasons. Love the durable fabric and pit zips for outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, x country skiing. Plenty of usable pockets .The fit is good except for the forearms which are a bit snug . A little more forearm room would have garnered a 5 rating.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great Jacket but.... This is a great jacket but the forearms are very tight-especially if you're wearing a flannel shirt of any thickness. I received this for a gift and was replacing the former Orvis shell I've had for 10+ years but the arm dimensions are not like the older shell design. May want to go to the next size up unless you have forearms like a teenage boy. Simple solution would be to make the arm dimensions like the Upland shell this replaced.
