The Story

On big Western rivers when the wind is blowing and the terrestrials are out, there is nothing better than slamming the banks with big hopper and ant fly patterns. This foam monster is one of the best. Don't be afraid to drop this foam fly on the water hard, as that's how the naturals hit the water. Color, Black.

Sizes: 8, 10, 12.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great results with this pattern! I just got into fly fishing this year (July 2020) and my local Orvis shop recommended this foam 'hopper' as an indicator. Got great results in August on the Ottauquechee in VT with a few Rainbow trout and on the Neversink in NY with wild Brown trout. I went back and bought 8 more as back-up. One note: The color pattern at my Orvis in NYC is different than pictured here. Instead of white and red, my are yellow and orange. Either way, highly visible on the water!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Warm Weather Fly This is one of my favorite warm water flies. I typically fish this on still water for panfish but have also had success on small streams fishing for trout

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Great Ant! I love these! People don't realize that the rocky Mountain Ants really get this big, and big ol Browns love em in late summer! Only pce I get them is here at Orvis!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This ant is nuclear! As I've written in other reviews, I'm an absolutely terrible fly fisherman. Only a few things work well with my sloppy presentation and this ant seems to be the #2 most successful fly in my collection. Bass, Brim, Bluegills and other Sunfish go absolutely crazy for this little ant. No idea why the little legs make a difference but they surely do. This is a perfect fly for somebody that wants to go out and have fun in spite of a bad presentation. You will catch fish with this fly!
