The Story

Yellowstone Park has some ridiculously good hopper fishing in early fall. The Lamar River and the Gibbon River in particular run through some very open grassland that is full of grasshoppers. On a windy day, the fly fishing on these rivers can be spectacular. This foam grasshopper fly pattern stays high on the water and will take fish after fish without getting waterlogged. This grasshopper fly pattern is tied by Tom Travis of Livingston, Montana, one of the best fly tiers in country. Color, Tan, Olive.

Sizes: 10, 12.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The usual sad fish story My dream is the mythical 10lb LM bass caught on a 10 ft 4wt Clearwater. I got my hopper last Saturday, waited till Monday to try it; first cast edged against my favorite weed bed and you guessed it, a strike. Yes I've caught bass before but mostly small ones, 12 - 14 inch fish, they jump like rainbows. Anyway I fought the fish through a couple runs in open water, it was heavy, then it was gone. Well the hopper, rod, reel all did their jobs, I didn't and lost the fish. The fish tried to jump once but only got its head out of the water, oh well perhaps another day

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Crusher I've used this fly several times in the last couple of weeks. The first time I used it I caught a beautiful brown that just crushed it! Just went out with it tonight, caught a nice rainbow, some rock bass and a huge carp. The fish crush this hopper, just get it and see for yourself. Used both sizes and colors with great results.
