The Story

Stock your midge box with the Mad Bomber Chironomid, a perfect fly to catch those cruising trout in the shallows. Works equally well on midge-hungry tailwater trout. In black.

Sizes: 10, 16.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An excellent choice I fish trout pods in northeast Ohio, and the Mad Bomber is my go-to chironomid pattern. Fished about four feet below a strike indicator, it consistently catches trout, even during the heat of the day. I heartily recommend this pattern to anyone who fishes still water for trout.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow! The quality of this fly is amazing. I can’t tie flies and I usually buy mine from a local fly shop… Until now! None can compare to Orvis. This is a very successful pattern for me. Caught lots of trout.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lost friend found While on a trip to Colorado when the fishing turned slow I put on a midge pattern with a white cone head. The fishing improved by about 100 percent as I hooked fish after fish for about an hour. It was the last hour of the last day of the trip and I couldn't wait to try this fly when I got back home to New Jersey. My first day back on my home waters I fished this fly and caught quite a few fish on it. I only had 2 of these flies and eventually I lost both of them. I couldn't remember the exact name of the fly or where I had bought it. I found a few which were almost the same but they did not produce like the original. Finally I found this fly in the Orvis catalog and purchased half a dozen. The first day I tried one I caught fish right away even under different conditions than I had fished in previously. It appears this fly works under many different conditions on different rivers. I feel I have been reunited with an old friend. I can't wait to fish it in Pa. this spring.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must have stillwater fishing Use the the Mad Bomber as an attracter fly on your stillwater nyphing rig. Drop a TH zebra midge under it and wait for the take. Something about the white beadhead gets the takes
