The Story

A minimalist jacket within the Ultralight Wading System that offers solid protection against wind and rain that can be carried in a small daypack or even the Guide Sling Pack. Most wading jackets are heavy and bulky, but this new approach to foul weather protection offers more comfort, freedom, and a significant reduction in bulk. Combined with other components of the Orvis Ultralight Wading System this is an extremely comfortable and streamlined approach to wading and weather. It doesn't have to be heavy to offer great waterproof and windproof protection. Two-way stretch, three-layer shell fabric with 20K Waterproofness / 30K Breathability rating offers the durability you need with the comfort and freedom you desire. Moves with you while keeping you dry and comfortable over a wide range of temperature and activity ranges. Fully-taped seams for added weatherproofing enhances the longevity of the jacket. DWR finish (Durable Water Repellent repels water from fabric surface. YKK AquaGuard® water-resistant zippers are flexible, easy to slide, yet keep the elements out. Two front storage pockets and side zip pockets feature power-mesh pockets for breathability, less bulk, and more pocket room when you need it. Integrated Dolphin Skin Cuff system prevents water from running up the arm when reaching into the water to release fish. Rubberized tabs for tool docking eliminate punctures in fabric when hanging tools, and offer greater security for tools. Internal power-mesh pocket for added storage. Three-way adjustable storm hood with laminated brim. Rear yoke D-ring for net.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Gets the job done Purchased one recently as a result for a need to stay dry in wet conditions while fishing. Material is soft, semi-breathable, and definitely waterproof. The fit is true and is quite comfortable. I am 6'2, 260lbs and I purchased an XL and that fits completely fine. Only thing I have issues with is taking off the inner sleeves of the jacket since it is practically body forming. Other than that, the design and materials are good enough especially at this price point compared to other competing brands.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing fabric So far I have used this during a downpour while walking my dog at 40 degrees. I was not only dry and comfortable with no heat build up, but one shake of the jacket removed any remaining droplets of rain. I was immediately able to wear the jacket while driving my car without soaking the seats. I am very impressed and can't wait to wear it steelheading this weekend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic jacket Awesome jacket. Had a few weeks and been out twice. True to fit, I’m fairly tall (6 3) and slim (14st ) but bought a medium and it fits well with some space for a couple of warmer layers. The dolphin cuffs work well. The pocket on the chest is a little small but takes a phone or small fly box, don’t let it put you off. Went with the orange colour and I am pleased. Bought as I wanted a jacket I could wear elsewhere not just fishing and does this job perfectly. Thanks Orvis! Good job.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from My Favorite Fishing Jacket ... I use this for rainy or cool days, fishing on the Rio Grande (near Taos, NM) ... It's light enough to pack in the back pocket of my fishing vest and has plenty of storage room for gear .... Love this jacket!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light, Packable Rain Jacket Terrific rain jacket that can be rolled into a small water bottle sized stuff sack. Perfect for putting in my fishing sling for the just in case rain that happens every afternoon. Jacket is light but sheds water and wind. Nice fishing specific features as well. Nice job Orvis.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Designed by a fly fisher? At first glance, I was impressed by the overall quality construction...fully-taped seams, generous hood and single-pull tabs. After trying the Ultralight Wading Jacket on, I noticed that it hung a few inches longer than my other wading jackets. As someone who wears the rain jacket OVER my waders, this might be a problem when deep wading. The biggest design flaw (and I can't believe it hasn't been mentioned in any reviews) are the TINY breast pockets. I consider myself a minimalist, and yet none of my fly boxes comfortably fit into either pocket. I wished I had watched Orvis' product video, because even the model had to JAM a box into the pocket and then force the zipper closed. I'll be taking the jacket to my tailor to see if she can increase the pockets' capacity. If not, I'll be returning for a refund.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic jacket Astoundingly comfortable in the rain, even can double as a wind shell, seems very solidly constructed, should last a long while. Word to the wise, everyone’s got a different idea of proper fit, but I went by the size chart and by all accounts should definitely be an XL and I was swimming in it. I should say, swimming around the middle. If you wanted a LOT of room to accommodate big vest, big belly, a stowaway of some kind — ordering off the chart is probably the way to go. I prefer a slightly trimmer fit, exchanged for a large and there’s still plenty of room to wear over waders and layer another jacket or heavy sweatshirt underneath. For a barrel chested someone with large arms and wide shoulders, that’s a big win in my book. Hood is fantastic, pockets are high and roomy for storage, gear tabs on front and d-ring on the back all make for fun and helpful attachment points. Looks sharp to boot.
