The Story

Cast with the experts and return to luxury accommodations at Orvis-endorsed Montana Fly Fishing Lodge during your angling adventure in Big Sky Country. Our home waters are vast and varied where, "Variety is the Spice of Life” and so it goes with nary another angler in sight. Find yourself fly casting from a drift boat in a big, beautiful valley one day, from a fly-fishing raft in scenic mountain terrain the next day, and through the Montana prairielands the next ... each day in beautiful Big Sky Country on legendary, world-class waters such as the Yellowstone, Bighorn, Stillwater, and many smaller private-access Blue Ribbon walk/wade trout streams. Our clients often comment on having seen only one or two other anglers, or no other anglers at all, while on their guided trip each day. Our home waters are in a quiet corner of Montana that just doesn’t see the throngs of anglers found elsewhere in the state; it is fly fishing as it should be. Combine that with some of the most experienced fly-fishing outfitters and guides in the state and what you get is a memory-anchoring experience not to be forgotten! We are family owned and operated by fourth-generation Montana natives on riverfront property that has been in the family since the 1940s. The lodge and all structures on the property were, for the most part, built by the owner. We live by, and demonstrate, the age-old adage, “May all who enter as guests leave as friends!”

Highlights:

  • Brown, rainbow, brook, and Yellowstone cutthroat trout
  • Fish legendary Montana trout rivers Yellowstone, Big Horn, Stillwater, and numerous private-access walk/wade Blue Ribbon streams.
  • All-Inclusive accommodations/food/beverage/fly-fishing program, fly-casting lessons each evening, intimate home waters knowledge, trained private chef meals, authentic Montana luxury accommodations.
  • Rates start from $2,400 for an all-inclusive 3-night/2-day fly-fishing package
  • Fly-fishing season is April–October.

Our handcrafted Log Lodge was built with rare, large white spruce logs, several in excess of 30” in diameter. The lodge has standard double queen and a single king room option among the four guest room accommodations in the lodge. On the main level of the lodge, guests have a great room with huge trapezoidal windows and a ridge pole log at 17’, and a large cobblestone fireplace. The main-floor kitchen is where private chef Judi produces cuisine that never ceases to wow and amaze all of our guests. The lower level of the lodge has a media center, a dining area with a mix of high-top tables and a large family-style dining table. The lower level also grants access to the pergola-covered patio area via French doors, where guests enjoy hot tubbing, the outdoor beverage station, and a fire-table seating area. Our five creekside Luxury Safari Style Tents, adjacent to and an extension of the lodge, are accessed via a short walking path or golf carts. Each has either a single king or double queen beds, a leather sofa, portable heating and air conditioning, mini fridge, keurig, and full bath with glass panel shower … and just outside, a babbling brook providing background music.

On arrival day, via airport transfer or private car, we’ll check you into the Lodge accommodations, acquaint you with the property, and provide golf carts and fat-tire bicycles for getting around. Each guest has their assigned gear box, which includes fly-fishing gear and equipment such as wading boots, neoprene socks, waders, PFG hooded shirts, neck gaiters, wading staff, and a rough itinerary document for your stay.

Each evening, after a chef-prepared four-course dinner delivered under the pergola on the guest patio, we will have optional fly-casting lessons on the south lawn followed by an optional, weather-permitting, fire pit gathering, live music, or activities in the Rec Barn. Adjacent to the lodge, the Rec Barn is our gaming and entertainment area home to a full bar, live music, video streaming, billiards, shuffleboard, foosball, table tennis, and a horseshoe pit.

Daily itinerary details will be discussed each evening taking into account river conditions, insect hatches, weather, client physical preparedness, etc. Mornings start with a hot breakfast, gear prep/fitting, guide assignment and launch! River depending, you may be fishing from a raft/drift boat or walk wading a smaller stream or private lake. Chef-prepared lunch is served riverside by your guide for the day. The guide will return you to the Lodge at day's end with fishing stories to tell around the table and campfire.

The Lodge property, accommodations, food, and beverage are secluded on the banks of the "Wild & Scenic" East Rosebud River. Our authentic Log Lodge, Luxury Safari Tents, Rec Barn, Historic Bridge, miles of river frontage, private trout ponds, and beautiful vistas in the shadow of the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness Mountain range are, by all accounts, second to none. You will be angling for German Brown, Rainbow, Brook, and Yellowstone Cutthroat trout on legendary Montana trout rivers such as the Yellowstone, Big Horn, Stillwater, Boulder, and numerous smaller rivers. https://www.montanaflyfishinglodge.com/home-waters.html to read more about our home waters!
