The Story

Join the Saltwater Edge and Orvis in Middletown, Rhode Island for a two-day Orvis Saltwater Fly Fishing School, including a guided day on the water! This is a unique opportunity to learn how to pursue saltwater species in the Northeast in all the waters they reside. Learn how to stalk striped bass in the flats, how to setup your equipment for ferocious bluefish, and pick the right flies for one of the fastest fish that swims, the false albacore.

"Little Rhody" played an important role in the development of saltwater fly fishing in part due to the variety of species available depending on the season. Striped bass and bluefish get top billing as season long visitors and bonito and false albacore bring their excitement to our shores most every fall. All four species will be the focus of this school. You will learn saltwater specific tactics and techniques to prepare you for a day on the water. Fly casting, tackle and fly selection, rigging, fish fighting as well as proper release techniques will be emphasized.

This school will take place on Aquidneck Island. The island offers almost as many places to cast a fly as to find a terrific meal. With Newport, Rhode Island "America's First Resort" minutes from the shop there plenty to do at night or for you or your spouse during the day or reason to extend your stay.
