Easily sheds dirt and oils allowing line to perform better longer
  • Orvis Line ID quickly identifies the line with the taper, weight and functionality
  • Enhanced welded loop makes leader attachment quick and easy while holding up to repeated use. Helps to transfer energy more efficiently to the leader allowing better turnover
  • All PRO lines are 90' in length and incorporate three color sections at 8'(stealth tip), 30' (from the tip), and rear taper and running line

The Story

PRO Depth Charge is a triple density sinking fly line designed with three different levels of sink to eliminate the hinge effect in the line for better strike detection and line feel. This design allows the line to retain a tight connection from fly to angler as it sinks into the water column, reducing unwanted slack. Superb for swinging flies through fast currents or working streamers in deep stillwaters. The front section is a 30' full sink tip (6 in. per second average sink rate based on grain weight. The mid-section is a 20' type 3 (3 in. per second sink rate. The running line is an Intermediate with a 1.5 in. per second sink rate.

Available in 150 grain (5/6wt mist green/dark green/dark gray), 200 grain (6/7wt yellow/dark green/dark gray), 250 grain (7/8wt orange/dark green/dark gray), 300 grain (8/9wt surf/dark green/dark gray), 350 grain (9/10wt green/dark green/dark gray), 450 grain (11/12wt white/dark green/dark gray), 550 grain (12+wt red/dark green/dark gray.)

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointing for the price I used the line to fish for stripers in the Roanoke River. The line is tri-colored but the head and second color are so close to each other I couldn't find where the shooting head ended. I am disappointed that Orvis did not put more thought into the coloration of the line so a caster could tell easily how to cast only the shooting head. The line was more difficult to cast than other shooting head lines I have used.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Teeth and Gums!! This line is just perfect for me and my saltwater fishing! It’s as it was made just for me! Easy casting, and the fly gets down quickly into the feeding zone, meaning more casts and more fish! Love it!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb casting and depth control I’m an avid striped bass fisherman on Long Island. I was using Orvis hydros depth charge and was trying to maneuver my boat in the wind along a creek edge that was stacked with fish. Caught about 10 stripers. On the 11th fish, bumped the motor to correct the drift and was not paying full attention to we’re my line was and my prop ate half my fly line. I immediately ordered new line from Orvis online but went to a local shop to purchase a fly line while I waited for my order. The other brands line is ok but there is no comparison and let’s just say I will be sticking up spare Orvis line anytime I have extra funds. I loved the Orvis hydros depth charge. I have no words to describe my feelings for the pro.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Depth Charge Line Just one question. It didn't come with a tagged end to connect to the backing. Which end does it connect to? The green or the black end?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gets down! I strip this line in deep waters out at pyramid lake, and this is the easiest sinking line I've ever used to cast. Holds up beautifully in the high alkaline water. This line sinks and sinks quickly. Nice and thin, looking at it upon first glance theres NO WAY this lines going to sink fast. I could not have been more wrong. Depth charge is the best name it could have
