The Story

Orvis was founded 170 years ago in Manchester, Vermont, offering superior fly fishing equipment and renowned customer satisfaction and service. The fly fishing schools began in 1966 and have helped thousands of anglers fall in love with the ever-challenging sport of fly fishing.

Our Advanced Fly Casting school, held at Kent Island Resort in Stevensville, Maryland, is proud to be part of the Orvis family and all fly casters take their skills to the next level. Nestled in the rolling Maryland countryside, the resort is a short drive from Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, Maryland.

The Advanced Casting class is a fantastic course for intermediate to advanced fly casters. Our teaching methods allow us to accommodate all levels of experience and abilities. You’ll learn advanced fly casting techniques, explore fly fishing equipment, and focus on achieving the casting distance or specific casts you have been working toward. Indoor and outdoor sessions are focused on developing comprehensive advanced casting techniques and use of video analysis. Classes are kept small, so you’ll receive the attention needed to improve your skills. We also keep the afternoon flexible so our expert instructors can tailor instruction to individual needs. We encourage an appreciation for fine tackle and emphasize the importance of catch-and-release ethics, a clean and healthy outdoor environment, and continued pursuit of quality fly fishing experiences through the promotion of our Orvis-Endorsed Lodge, Outfitter, and Guide Services.
