Located within the eastern flank of the Prairie Pothole Region, our waterfowl hunting lodge is surrounded by millions of acres of prime agriculture cropland and pothole habitat. Our strategic location puts us amongst the enormous seasonal pushes of the Central and Mississippi flyways, while offering convenient access to the most prolific feeding and staging areas. Our daily hunt schedule will always reveal our highly requested field hunts and seasonal opportunities for traditional water hunts. Hunt scenarios and dynamics are always designed to cater to individual needs, regardless of your waterfowl hunting experience. Built with total comfort in mind, our six cabins offer everything you might desire from private accommodations. Quaint and practical, our cabin arrangements house a cedar interior, sitting area, comfortable bunk beds with linens, an ensuite bathroom and shower, a bar fridge, ceiling fans, electric heat, and plenty of storage. They are also fitted with Wi-Fi, CPAP, and USB plugs, plus a few other added touches. It’s a welcoming space for two people that provides a perfect retreat after a full day of waterfowling.

The Birdtail Waterfowl Lodge is our hub of activity. This is where hunts begin, plans are made, meals are served, and trips are adjourned. Our state-of-the-art kitchen, guest dining room, sunroom lounge, and office are all included within its interior. It offers a hospitable environment to enjoy many well-prepared meals, your favorite drink, satellite television, and the company of staff and fellow hunters.

Arrival Day:

Arrive in Winnipeg/Minot, meet Birdtail Waterfowl staff for pick-up
Purchase shells and any necessary shopping
Drive to Birdtail Waterfowl (approx. 3.5-hour drive), arrive around 7:00 to 8:00 PM
Get settled into your cabin, enjoy a large, Manitoba-style dinner
Hunt and destination orientation will be discussed
Your guides will inform you on wake-up times, departure, and the style of hunt planned for the morning

Hunt Days:

Come to the lodge for a full breakfast (early), gear up in change house
Meet your guide at his truck and depart the lodge for the hunt
Hunt until approximately 11:00 AM, return to the lodge after the hunt
Lunch will be from 12:00 to 12:30 PM.
Your guide will inform you on the hunt style planned for the afternoon hunt
Enjoy a complimentary round of skeet or take a nap
2:30 to 3:00 PM we depart for afternoon hunt
Hunt until sunset (approx.), back to the lodge for dinner from 7:00 to 9:00 PM
Your guide will inform you on wake-up times, departure, and the style of hunt planned for the morning

Departure Day:

Come to the lodge for a full breakfast (early), gear up in change house
Meet your guide at his truck and depart the lodge for the hunt
Hunt until approx. 9:30 AM., return to the lodge after the hunt
Lunch will be at 11:15 AM
Staff will load coolers if you are taking home processed birds
Depart for Winnipeg/Minot (times may vary based on scheduled flights)

Birdtail Waterfowl is surrounded by vast agriculture, potholes, big lakes, mixed forests, and rolling hills. The hunting environment offers opportunities to be positioned in anything from flat pea fields, forested barley fields, or big marshes. We go where the birds are. The Prairie Pothole Region is a dynamic ecosystem that creates new experiences every day. This habitat-rich area reveals a lot of sights and sounds that you won’t see anywhere else in the world. The sheer number of migrating waterfowl species is worth the price of admission. Constant engagement with pre-trip organization, travel logistics, blind and decoy set-ups, calling, approaching flocks, and bird retrieval keeps everyone connected to their passion. Every hunt is unique, which often creates a variable of positive unknowns and exceeded expectations.
