The Story

Situated in the rolling hills of southern Pennsylvania in the town of Blue Ridge Summit, Orvis Hill Country encompasses more than 500 acres devoted to fly fishing, sporting clays, and wingshooting pursuits. In 1966, we opened the first Orvis Fly Fishing School in Manchester, Vermont, and since then we have expanded globally as the leader in fly casting lessons and education. For 60 years, our professional casting instructors have taught thousands of students how to fly fish. Our teaching methods allow us to accommodate all levels of instruction, from beginners to experienced fly casters.

Join us at Orvis Hill Country for our 2-Day Trout Combo School that combines our time-tested 1-Day Fly Fishing School followed by a second day of guided fly fishing on our exclusive private water sections of Antietam and Red Run streams, which include wild brown trout, rainbows and occasional brook trout.

You'll cover it all at the Orvis Hill Country Trout Combo School:

  • Fly casting techniques
  • Essential fly fishing knots
  • How to choose your gear & tackle
  • Demonstrations on fishing flies
  • Proper fly selection for both saltwater & freshwater species
  • How to read water & currents
  • How to play, land & safely release fish
  • A day of guided fishing on our exclusive private streams
  • School costs include instruction, all equipment & lunch

Students should bring a hat, polarized sunglasses, sunscreen, and rain gear. Students must be 12 years or older to attend. Click “BOOK NOW” to view availability, cost, and to make your reservation.
