France is the land of culture, gastronomy, art, incomparable wines, and beautiful wild zebra trout. It is the perfect destination for couples and travelers seeking a trip that combines fishing with elegance, romance, and unforgettable experiences in nature.
Fly Fishing France is an Orvis-Endorsed Fly-Fishing Outfitter that cares as much for the anglers as for their companions. Our goal is for every member of the trip to have a unique experience, discovering authentic France through guided activities in fishing, nature, culture, and gastronomy.

Our trips take place in two accommodations:
HOTEL LES OLIVADES (GAP): Just 5 minutes from Gap, this boutique hotel offers 19 rooms, a swimming pool with a terrace, massage services, and a gourmet restaurant featuring local products and select wines. It is a peaceful retreat near the Écrins National Park.
CHÂTEAU DE PICOMTAL (CROTS): A 14th-16th century castle, elegantly restored with views of Lake Serre-Ponçon. Managed by an American couple, it combines history, luxury, and comfort.
For stays of up to 4 days, our base of operations is Hotel Les Olivades. For longer trips, we incorporate the Château de Picomtal, located 40 minutes from Gap in the picturesque village of Crots.
Our operation is located near the Écrins National Park, in the heart of the Alps, an area known for its crystal-clear, torrential rivers fed by small tributaries. These rivers are home to wild zebra trout, ideal for fly fishing. There are also hiking opportunities to mountain lakes where you can fish for brown trout, brook trout, cristivomer trout, and rainbow trout, all within spectacular landscapes.
The rivers of the French Alps still host 100% native populations of Mediterranean brown trout or zebra trout, a species that has adapted to its environment for over 12,000 years. It survived the last ice age and is a valuable treasure that we must protect through sustainable tourism.
In our destination, you won’t catch the biggest trout, but you will fish for a unique and ancient species, resilient to extreme Mediterranean climate conditions such as floods, snowmelt, and droughts.
Choose a trip to Europe away from farmed fish and support responsible tourism that positively impacts wild trout populations.
A combined trip in two base locations:
Is fishing done from a boat or wading? The program is based on wading, with options ranging from semi-flat riverbeds for easy wading to technical mountain rivers. Generally, walking is not required to access fishing spots, though hikes can provide access to more remote areas.
What is the driving distance to the fishing spots? 30 minutes to 1 hour by car.
Is it possible for non-angling companions to accompany the fisherman? Yes, non-angling companions are welcome. Please inform us in advance to choose the right location and prepare a gourmet picnic and drinks for an additional person. We can also arrange parallel activities for non-fishers, starting and ending in the same locations as the fishing, allowing a break to dine with the anglers.
Who are the parallel activities aimed at? Parallel activities are designed for companions of non-anglers, their partners, and anglers’ rest days.
When should we choose the activities we will participate in? At Fly Fishing France, we offer various cultural, gastronomic, and outdoor experiences. We recommend booking these activities in advance for proper organization.
