Grant Richie leads Minam Store Outfitters as owner and head guide. His family has lived and worked in Hells Canyon for five generations giving Grant a historical perspective that is rare among guides. By blending his enthusiasm for the canyon, its history, fishing, outstanding camps, and great food, Grant creates a distinct guided fishing experience you won’t find anywhere else.

Pre-Trip

Meet your lead guide in Halfway, OR the evening before launch to go over morning itinerary and get your drybags. On the morning of launch, make the 1 hour drive to the put in and meet your guide crew. Head down river and start catching fish!


The Trip

A typical day on the river:

  • 6 AM: Coffee and tea are ready.
  • 7 AM: Hot Breakfast is served.
  • 8-9 AM: Begin fishing your way downstream. Try not to wear out your arm from fighting fish!
  • Noon: Take a break somewhere on the river and enjoy a hearty sack lunch and fantastic scenery. Breathe it all in!
  • 5 PM: Arrive to a pre-set camp and derig in your personal wall tent while the guides take care of the boats and prepare dinner.
  • 6 PM: Enjoy a great meal riverside in the deepest gorge in North America!

End Of Trip

The trip will end at the historic Kirkwood Ranch Museum. We will provide a jet boat shuttle back to the ramp where you vehicle waits. On certain dates, jet boat shuttles are not available and we will work with a vehicle shuttle company to move your vehicle to Pittsburg Landing.

The Snake River divides the states of Oregon and Idaho. This federally designated wild and scenic section of Hells Canyon is the deepest gorge in North America and has several large whitewater rapids. It also has incredible geology, well-preserved homesteads, and myriads of historical Native American and Chinese mining sites.
