The Story

Discover the magic of fly fishing in Hidden Spain curated by an expert.

Ivan Tarín, undoubtedly one of the top connoisseurs of Spain’s most hidden corners, has dedicated his life to bring these adventures into reality.

Each itinerary is personalized for you, pairing his in-house team of friendly and deeply experienced guides, with the best hatches and waters he knows, his preferred lodges, and his favorite Spanish food and wines.

Top-notch overall fly fishing experience, hospitality, and extraordinary attention to every detail defines this well-run operation, which is comparable to the world’s finest.

Travel companions can explore a selection of thoughtfully crafted activities around food & wine, culture, nature, adventure, history and/or wellness.

“My philosophy has always been about fishing where others cannot reach. Thirty years of scouting has given me enough options to operate two different regions in Spain: the Pyrenees and what I named Destination X to keep it under the seal of secrecy. When I noticed some of our guests' most precious times were shared among their loved ones who might not be anglers, I developed the Multi-Activity Program with the same high level of standards. Finally, in honor of our 25 years anniversary, I assembled a couple of departures per season for the Best of Spain combination Trip, the fruit of my dreams.”

Pyrenees Classic Trout Tour

Spanning from the high country’s dramatic peaks to the green valleys in the lowlands, this tour has been praised as the most enriching fly fishing adventure Europe has to offer. Each departure involves, as appropriate, a base lodge plus an optional “camp”, to reach the best options. Prime time: March, June, July, and September to November

Destination X

Salvelinus has named it Destination X to keep these waters off the radar. These are a unique spring-feed system of creeks, streams, and lakes where you have a chance to land trophy bows, browns and Iberian barbel. Secrets are hard to maintain so no names of locations will be provided until anglers are in Spain. Prime time: April to June

Best Of Spain Combination Trip

In honor of our 25th Anniversary, Salvelinus has chosen its favorite waters along two destinations in the Iberian Peninsula and combined them into a grand Spanish odyssey. Each program is personalized so both novice and experts will have a productive and diverse experience. Only two departures with prime time itineraries for Spring and Fall

Non-Angling Multi-Activity Holidays

An ideal and flexible program tailored for each guest looking to enjoy some of the most beautiful villages and breathtaking countryside we've ever seen. Romanesque fortifications, private wine & gastro tours, kayaking, wellness, and gentle hikes through peaceful valleys, national parks, and UNESCO sites are just some of the options.

Pyrenees

Since 2005, the company has put together a casual guest lodge in Arén with a unique gastro offering. Bajo La Piedra Fly Fishing Lodge, was opened in 2024 in the Arén valley exclusively attending to Salvelinus anglers and their companions. Both lodges have mountain village locations with a rich medieval history, air-conditioned rooms with mini bars, a heated wading room, massage service, and a full complement of gear. Their only unique rule is: “make yourself at home". Meals are served at an intimate family-owned restaurant near both lodges, where the passion for seasonal cuisine from ancient recipes paired with exquisite Spanish wines, is deliciously evident.

Anglers have the chance to overnight in satellite “camps”, actually country inns ready at all times, adding to their hidden Spain experience while fishing these isolated waters.

Destination X

La Posada de Iberia is a traditional hospedería in a massive plain serving as the main base in the region due to its great facilities and amazing location. A restaurant on the property specializes in regional food, featuring local produce accompanied by a wide variety of local wines. Other inns with premier waters within a short drive are used when needed. All accommodations in the program combine rustic air-conditioned rooms with modern services, regional cuisine with Spanish wines and all fishing gear and flies at your disposal.

The Salvelinus guide team’s constant investment in scouting new territory produces trips on waters with very little pressure. They are experts in this massive but little-known fly fishing playground with more than 24 main valleys, 3000+ alpine lakes, and over 40 Nature Reserves and Parks.

The Pyrenees rise from 600 to 7500 feet above sea level including mountain streams, creeks, and lakes in the Highlands, along with freestone rivers and tailwaters in the Lowlands. Native brown trout and Iberian barbel with occasional rainbows and brookies

March offers great BWO hatches. Run-off occurs during late April and May. Mid-May to mid-October offer the best variety, dry fly action, and backcountry and barbel options. Late October and November provide stable weather with excellent fall opportunities

Destination X includes several plateaus, mid-elevation mountain ranges, and sierras for easy wading streams, spring creeks and lake flats, some of those within very restricted access. The focus depends on the departure: big browns, bows and/or Iberian barbels.

Main hatches, best temperature and water-levels are from April to June depending on the elevation. April and May are the best for targeting trophy barbel. These hard fighting species are only sight fish, adding a unique dimension to the trip.
