When you walk upstairs to the fly shop at Sun Valley Outfitters, you may be surprised at what you find! Deer, elk, antelope, Alaskan sheep and caribou adorn the walls above 50,000 flies to choose from. Orvis rods, reels, waders and wading boots are on display along with men's and women's apparel, ball caps, t-shirts and even a few Himalayan prayer flags for good measure! Sun Valley Outfitters, Sun Valley, Idaho's only Orvis-Endorsed Outfitter, is the local's favorite outfitter because we love our guests!
A hub-bub of activity, visitors to SVO can always find a conversation going on upstairs about the local hatches, what's working and where to cast flies. Season:
Sun Valley Outfitters is a year-round fly fishing outfitter. Steelhead trips are run in March and April while trout trips take place through the year.
Species:
Target species include rainbow, brown, Westslope cutthroat, Snake River finespot cutthroat, brook and bull trout in addition to spring steelhead and Montana grayling.
Region/Terrain:
Sun Valley, Idaho offers some of the finest blue ribbon trout and steelhead fishing in the continental U.S. Located within the Northern Rockies, the waters surrounding Sun Valley include hundreds of miles of freestone rivers and streams, some of the finest spring creek fishing available, tailwaters, alpine lakes and reservoirs suited for beginners and experts alike. This mountainous region is a modern-day explorer's dream all located within a short drive of the SVO store in Ketchum right next door to Starbucks on Sun Valley Road.
Typical Weather:
Sun Valley is aptly named as the local weather sees more than 300 days of sunshine every year! Located at 6000' above sea level and with very low humidity, Sun Valley is an extremely comfortable fishing destination with summertime highs averaging in the high 70s and low 80s F and very little precipitation. Even as late as October, SVO guests enjoy sunny skies and warm temps while pursuing the trout that call the region home.
