The Story

Ants are the most common terrestrials on the water. They are found everywhere and fish know what they are and love to eat them. From the vise of Tom Travis of Livingston, Montana comes this high visibility parachute ant pattern that will work well into the evening hours of last light.

Sizes: Black (12, 14, 16, 18), Cinnamon (14, 16, 18)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Fly! Bought these ants for a trip to Yellowstone and they did not disappoint!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good and Bad Bought these for a September 2019 trip to Montana. Ordered 6 (black) to assess their quality. The good ones were beautiful and very well tied, but one had a good 1/8" or more of the hook shaft exposed between the body segments. This shinny hook shaft I fear will be a "DANGER" sign to any trout that considers it a meal. The two body segments were solidly attached and hopefully a black Sharpie will tone it down and make it usable...?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One ANT to Rule them All... in the summer I tie lots of Ants cause they are my workhorse pattern of summertime. But even as a 10+ year Tyer, I still get this pattern from Orvis because it seems to just work when everything else will not. Fished as a searcher in larger sizes on freestoners, or to a limestone sipping brown, this Ant has yet to fail for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfectly tied and easy to see Bought these in cinnamon and black in multiple sizes. These flies are tied in beautiful detail and perfect proportions and the hi-vis post provides easy visibility on the water - a characteristic not seen with most ant patterns. The horizontal hackle allows me to fish these as a standard or flying ant depending on my needs.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from effective but delicate Had great luck with this pattern up in Rocky Mountain National Park. Although it did catch fish, after hooking 3 browns the hackle fell apart.
