The Story

Fish Skull's fly-tying faux bucktail is a great alternative to natural bucktail because they come in a consistent length, eliminating the need to find the right bunch and strip out the shorter fibers. Simply peel off the amount of fibers you want, trim to length, and tie them in. This faux bucktail boasts the same great characteristics of premium natural bucktail; similar diameter, gentle crinkle, and a natural taper for lifelike action in the water. This material is super durable, holds glue and epoxy better than natural fibers, and sheds water so your flies last all day long.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from good product, good price to add a little stiffness to minnow imitations combining with marabou gives a realistic action

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very easy to use I tied bucktail jigs, Bob's Bangers, Clousers and more with this. A lot less messy than bucktail hair. A bit stiffer than real hair but that did not bother me as it was so much easier to use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to work with Really happy with this product. It was recommended by the sales associate in place of traditional buck tail. I’ve been using it to tie Clouser minnows, it’s tidy and easy to work with. Thanks Walker!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Slick Willy I used it last night to make some Clousers. I liked working with it and it looked good. It is very slick and if you do not tie it in well, it will slip our of the thread.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Bought Red, Looks Orange I bought a pack of red, but it looks orange in person in the sunlight. I completely dulled a pair of scissors working with two bunches of this bucktail - - I think I’m going back to natural bucktail.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Awful to work with, not many advantages Good - long, consistent, synthetic so doesn't soak up water. Bad - difficult to work with (too slick, hard to cut, too long, waste more than use), both of my clumps came apart and now there are loose fibers everywhere. IMHO, you are much better off buying good northern bucktails for when you need quality material and buying 'grab bag' type assortments of bucktail pieces for other needs.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Why? Fish Skull Faux Bucktail ... the solution to a problem that doesn't exist. I suppose it works as well as the real thing, but ... why?
