The Story

Designed by Frank Hornberg in the '20s, this fly can represent a caddis or stonefly when fished dry and then once downstream can be stripped in and fished as a baitfish. The Hornberg is one of the great flies from the golden age of fly tying. In natural.

In sizes: 8, 10, 12.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Troutinator A fabulous all purpose fly for cold Northern New England lakes...even when you can’t figure out what the heck they ‘re feeding on.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great addition to my collection Excellent craftsmanship. The only thing missing was the white dot at the beginning of the feathers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Like this fly Fished Esopus over the weekend. Lots of rises. Tried a few different dry flies but couldn't match the hatch. Tried the hornberg and got two small Browns on the retrieve. Got a few rises to the fly. I like this fly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Little Fly Picked it up on a whim, never used a Hornberg before. Has been excellent in the gorges of the finger lakes so far. Been a great fall back fly, when nothing else is bighting pull her out and give it a go. Versatile and seems to be pulling in just about everything. Brookies, smallmouth, and a fallfish just yesterday for example. Well tied and a good buy

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Needs the "eye" The Hornberg is a true classic and works great on my New England brookies, BUT the one shown here does not show the true Hornberg fly with its jungle cock eye. Don't know if when shipped it has the eyes but Hornbergs work MUCH better with them.
