The Story

Enlist the experts at the Orvis-endorsed Sawbriar hunting grounds on your upland wingshooting trip to Tennessee’s Big South Fork. You won't find a destination more dedicated to your wingshooting experience! Nestled in the beautiful, breathtaking Big South Fork scenery, the Sawbriar provides a classic sporting destination. Frederick and Rhonda Moody strive for excellence in customer service and will customize your adventure to fit your every need. The Sawbriar is a meticulously developed property specifically designed with the wingshooter in mind. Our shared love for the covey rise, rooster cackle, and point of a classy bird dog consistently guides our single-minded efforts to develop and maintain a world-class sporting destination. Your guides at The Sawbriar are some of the best in the country. All bring a wealth of experience and professionalism to the field. Their passion is enjoying the outdoors and we love them all. We hope you do too! From the personal service and attention to detail to the world-class dog work of our well-bred pointing dogs and retrievers to our intensive habitat management practices, The Sawbriar is unequaled in the Southeast for a world-class wingshooting experience.

Morning hunts will begin at 7:30 AM CST where you will be met by your guide at the lodge for a safety briefing before going to the field. Be sure to take lots of shells!

Our guests love to visit Tiffany at RM Brooks General Store for lunch. It is a walk down memory lane built in the early 1930s and acted as the local post office, general mercantile, gas station, and more. You must try her award-winning bologna sandwich!

Naps are also permitted as time allows.

Afternoon hunts will begin around 1:30 PM CST and continue if there is daylight if needed. Sometimes it is hard to leave the field when you hear pheasants cackling in the distance.

Our newly renovated lodge provides spacious room for entertaining. A large wood-burning fireplace and big-screen television are amenities for relaxing after the hunt. The kitchen is well-equipped to prepare all meals and beverages. A large back porch and outdoor fire pit round out the relaxing atmosphere at The Sawbriar.

Overnight guests often wrap up the day at Sawbriar Brewing Company, our local tap room at Highland Manor Winery, Tennessee's oldest.

The Sawbriar is located in the heart of Tennessee’s Upper Cumberland Plateau, literally a stone’s throw from the picturesque 125,000-acre Big South Fork National River and Recreational Area. Our property has been painstakingly established in native warm-season grasses, which provide fantastic natural hunting cover and dramatically enhance the local ecosystem. Deer, turkey, and many non-game species as well as unbelievable numbers of bobwhite quail and pheasants flourish on the Sawbriar; think of your grandpa's hunting grounds. You won’t find a better-managed slice of wingshooting heaven anywhere!

Half-day, full-day, and annual membership rates are available. Guided or unguided.
