The Story

Tailwater Lodge and the surrounding area has a variety of activities for our guests to experience throughout their stay. Cast a line in the Salmon River (it is what we are known for for a chance to reel in a trophy of a lifetime. Spend the day exploring the Tug Hill region of New York with your family, hiking or snowshoeing. Enjoy a day playing bocce ball and disc golf followed by a swim in our indoor pool or relaxing in the outdoor hot tub. These are all possible at Tailwater Lodge.

Tailwater Lodge is one of only two Orvis-Endorsed lodges in New York State. Let our Orvis-Endorsed guides help create the trip of a lifetime. From September through November, anglers can try their hand at some of the largest freshwater game fish in the world. Our king salmon range up to 30 pounds, with many fish pushing past 20 pounds. As the kings and cohos begin to spawn, our dime-bright steelhead begin to enter the river. These acrobatic fish bring anglers from all over the world, trying to land one of these trophies. Our steelhead season lasts from October until late spring, when the fish drop back to the lake after spawning. Summer-run steelhead, also called skamania, show up around June and are most abundant after heavy rains. Come to the Tailwater Lodge. Go home with a fishing story you'll tell again and again.

Orvis is pleased to offer our travel customers access to two valuable services: Global Rescue travel membership and IMG Signature Travel Insurance℠.
