Fly-Fishing Instruction and Guided Fishing in Manchester, Vermont

Details

Join us at the Orvis flagship location for a fly-fishing school that combines our time-tested 1-Day Fly Fishing School with a day of guided fishing in the Green Mountains we call home. Located in Manchester, Vermont, you'll begin to develop (or further hone) your fly-fishing skills in the heart of the brand's home, where our flagship retail store, school and history are rooted.

During the 2-Day School, you will take part in three casting sessions, learn about tackle selection, basic entomology, fly selection, leaders and basic knots. After a day of instruction, you will go on a full-day guided fly fishing trip (two anglers per guide) in the beautiful Green Mountains of Vermont, with an emphasis on instruction: reading water, specialized casts for fishing dry flies, nymphs and streamers. Depending on water conditions, participants will fish on larger rivers or one of the many small streams in and around Manchester with a seasoned Orvis Endorsed Guide.

You'll cover it all at the Manchester, Vermont Trout Fishing Combination School:

  • Fly casting techniques
  • Essential fly fishing knots
  • How to choose your gear and tackle
  • Stream entomology (the science of insects)
  • Proper fly selection
  • How to read water and currents
  • How to play, land, and safely release fish
  • A day of guided fishing

Question: Will I be able to attend the same class as my son/wife/etc, even though I am an intermediate and they are a beginner?

Answer - Instruction is geared toward beginners, but students of all levels are welcome and encouraged to progress at their own rate. Our teaching methods allow us to handle even experienced fly casters. We adjust our instruction to the students’ level. We will communicate your skill level with the guide you will spend the second day fishing with.

Question: How many people will be in the class?

Answer - Maximum students for this class is 8. One the guided fishing day, there will be two students per guide.

Question: How old should my child be for this school?

Answer - We recommend 12 years of age to start.

Answer - Yes, you may bring your own fly-fishing gear. Orvis gear will be available to borrow for both the classroom day and the guided fishing portion of the school.

Question: What will the weather be like?
