The Bighorn River is widely regarded as one of the premier trout fisheries in Montana and the world. The river's exceptional quality stems largely from Yellowtail Dam. Water released from the bottom of the reservoir stays cold and consistent year-round creating ideal habitat for trout even during the heat of a Montana summer.

This thermal stability, combined with nutrient-rich water, produces an extraordinary abundance of aquatic insects, scuds, and sow bugs that produce a healthy population of Rainbow and Brown Trout. Brown and rainbow trout thrive here, with fish commonly reaching 18 to 22 inches and larger specimens always a genuine possibility.

The river is also remarkably accessible. The Bighorn River is located less than a mile from our fly shop and lodge, allowing anglers to maximize their time on the water. Guides use drift boats to access prime stretches of water on the Bighorn River. Anglers will have both float and wade fishing opportunity during their trip to maximize angling opportunity.

The Bighorn fishes well in virtually every season. Hatches of midges, Blue-Winged Olives, Pale Morning Duns, and caddis draw trout to the surface throughout the year.

The Bighorn Trout Shop provides all inclusive packages that include guided fly fishing, lodging, and meals.

The most common package is 4 nights of lodging and 3 days of guided fishing for $1795 per person.
