Eagle Nest Lodge, MT
Nestled among the cottonwoods along the legendary Bighorn River, Eagle Nest Lodge is a premier destination for discerning anglers and wingshooters seeking an authentic Western sporting experience grounded in excellence, tradition, and stewardship.
Selected among the inaugural group of lodges to receive an endorsement from Orvis for fly fishing excellence, Eagle Nest Lodge further distinguished itself as the first Orvis-Endorsed lodge for wingshooting — becoming the first operation to achieve dual endorsements for both fly fishing and wingshooting. This rare distinction reflects an unwavering commitment to professional guide standards, exceptional sporting experiences, and meticulous hospitality.
Owned by Sofia and Tony Brookfield, the lodge reflects a vision that blends refined hospitality with Montana’s rugged beauty. Conservation lies at the heart of that vision. Tony serves on the National Board of Trustees for Trout Unlimited and is the former Chairman of the Board for California Trout. His leadership in coldwater conservation, habitat restoration, and fisheries stewardship underscores the lodge’s deep and ongoing commitment to protecting the rivers and landscapes that define the sporting life.
Lodge Manager Zac Hearon brings 19 years of guiding and lodge management experience. An Afghanistan veteran, Zac has guided both big game and upland bird, as well as the majority of Montana’s storied rivers. His depth of knowledge, steady leadership, and passion for the outdoors shape every guest experience at Eagle Nest Lodge. He takes great pride in welcoming new clients and building lasting relationships with sportsmen and women from around the world.
At Eagle Nest Lodge, river, wing, and heritage converge — where excellence is tradition and conservation is legacy.
Orvis is pleased to offer our travel customers access to two valuable services: Global Rescue travel membership and IMG Signature Travel Insurance℠.

The food is incredible!” Every morning is started with a made-to-order breakfast including eggs Benedict, pancakes, eggs, oatmeal, well, you get the idea. Lunch is served in the field.
Returning to the lodge for the evening cocktail, you'll enjoy appetizers among friends, followed by an amazing dinner of rack of lamb, beef tenderloin, salmon—always followed by a homemade dessert. Sherri's creme brûlée is one of the best you'll ever have.

Fishing: April-Thanksgiving Bird Hunting: September-Thanksgiving
The Bighorn River is teaming with rainbow and brown trout. The Bighorn River provides excellent fishing April through November. As a tailwater fishery, heavy runoff is never a problem, making it one of the few fisheries where fishing is as good in April and May as it is during summer and fall. The Bighorn averages between 4,000-6,000 trout per mile.
Here's a general description on hatches: Of course, never guaranteed!
Bighorn River: We combine float fishing from McKenzie-style drift boats with traditional stalk and wade techniques.
Although, wait five minutes and it'll change, so no guarantees.

We have lots of beginner fisherman and our guides are fantastic. The majority of our guides and staff have been with us for over 18 years. They are great with beginners and advanced fisherman alike.
That would depend on the condition of the water and hatches. Our typical float is anywhere from 10-13 miles per day. During summer and fall months we fish the lower Bighorn River which is virtually deserted and provides some of the best hopper and streamer fishing on the Bighorn. And almost always the biggest fish!
Yes.
We spray for mosquitoes so usually not an issue here at the lodge. Typically they won't bother you on the water.
