Salvelinus Fishing Adventures, Pyrenees, Spain

Fly fish and explore one of the wildest landscapes in Western Europe for wild trout in the Spanish Pyrenees. In addition to world-class fly fishing, you'll enjoy superb Spanish wines, mouth-watering cuisine, and authentic Spanish culture. Salvelinus offers a variety of tours to Spain for fly anglers and their non-angling travel companions including heli fly-outs, guided cultural tours, and food and wine tours. Ivan Tarin has built a unique fly-fishing business that covers more than a dozen valleys across 200 miles of mountain terrain, two high-quality lodges, and local, expert guides. You will be introduced to a new world of fly fishing as you travel back in time to explore remote mountain streams in one of the most picturesque regions of Spain. Fish the headwaters of the high Pyrenees for browns and brookies, and the mid and lower stretches for sizeable browns and rainbows. Non-anglers will be enchanted by the medieval architecture, ancient monasteries, Romanesque villages and old-world hospitality. You'll all remember this as a trip of a lifetime and want to return year after year!

An Authentic Experience With Expert Guides

"I admit it: I traveled to the Spanish Pyrenees as a skeptic. But my week with Ivan Tarin and Salvelinus Fishing Adventures opened my eyes to the incredible fishery to be found in the heart of the Old World. We fished all kinds of water - from high mountain streams to low-country rivers to lakes - in some of the most beautiful settings imaginable. The opportunity to catch "striped" brown trout in their native streams was especially exciting for this wild-trout nut. Everything about the trip, including the quality of the guides, exceeded my expectations!"
- Phil Monahan, former Editor of American Angler

Easy Access From Barcelona And Madrid

Travelling to the lodges is easy. The main international airports in Spain are Madrid and Barcelona. We can organize a private car transfer or you can take a high-speed train to Zaragoza or Lleida where your guide will pick you up and drive you to the lodge.

Santa Cilia Fishing Lodge, La Jacetania

This 15th-century villa is ideally located on the banks of the Aragon River in the quaint village of Santa Cilia. The lodge consists of five well-appointed country-style bedrooms that offer the perfect respite at the end of a long day of fishing or exploring. Each bedroom has been updated while maintaining its rustic personality and charm. They can be furnished with two single beds or one double bed.

The lodge also has a wader room, a drying room, a modest, but well-equipped in-house fly shop, as well as a cozy dining room where mouth-watering Mediterranean and Spanish cuisine is served at breakfast and dinner.

The old winepress building used by the monks of the Monastery of San Juan de la Peña 500 years ago is now the anglers' bar and lounge area. Swap stories at the end of each day over a glass of regional wine as you anticipate the day ahead.

Aren Lodge, La Ribagorza

This is not a traditional fishing lodge, but a wonderful, intimate hotel nestled in the village of Aren. Each of the 15 air-conditioned, double rooms have en-suite bathrooms, cable TV and balconies. There is a lounge on the ground floor, limited spa facility, and a room for drying your waders.

This Pyrenees tour includes unique culinary experiences in each region, including tasting menus, wine tastings, private lunches at exclusive locations, wine and tapas in local restaurants, barbecues by the river and other culinary experiences that will delight wine and food lovers.

Meals at Santa Cilia are served in the lodge's dining room. It was recently restored in the 15-century style of the rest of the building. Good food and wine are clearly a passion here. Using fresh, local produce, the menu at the lodge is second-to-none. The meals are typical of Northern Spain and accompanied by a great selection of wines from the region's best wineries, including La Rioja, Priorato and Grenache Kingdom. Wine lovers will also have the option of sampling special reserve wines from Ivan's private cellar.

All meals at La Ribagorza are served at the nearby hotel restaurant, which is recognized as one of the most authentic hot spots in the region. The menu features local, organic meat, produce and wines, and are anything but ordinary. Traditional dishes are enhanced by a preference for organic produce, and everything is fresh and tasty.

The owner, Juan Antonio, and his family have owned the restaurant since 1715, and their attention to culinary detail is deliciously evident. Lunches and dinners are served with quality red wines and a large selection of mouth-watering tapas.
