The Story

Our new Colorado Fly Fishing School at Breckenridge Outfitters is proud to be part of the Orvis School Program and to help all fly casters get to the next level. Breckenridge Outfitters is one of the most decorated Orvis-Endorsed Outfitters, with honors including 2024 Outfitter of the Year, 2016 Orvis Shop of the Year, 2013 Orvis-Endorsed Outfitter of the Year, 2005 Orvis-Endorsed Outfitter of the Year, and 2004 Orvis-Endorsed Outfitter of the Year. A full-line Orvis-Endorsed Fly Shop situated in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, students will learn from the best instructors in the industry.

Our program is geared toward beginners, but students of all levels are welcome and encouraged to progress at their own pace. Our teaching methods allow us to work with even experienced fly casters. Indoor and outdoor sessions are evenly divided, with the main emphasis on developing proper fly casting skills. Our goal is to have students exit the program able to handle 30-plus-foot casts efficiently, with a thorough understanding of fly selection, leaders, knot tying, reading water, etiquette, and the application and use of gear and equipment in both moving and still water. We also encourage an appreciation for fine tackle and emphasize the importance of the catch-and-release ethic, a clean and healthy outdoor environment, and the continued pursuit of quality fly fishing experiences through the promotion of our Orvis-Endorsed Lodge and Guide services.
