The Story

A classic parachute dry fly that's extremely productive, particularly in slower to medium currents. Hare's ear parachute dry flies ride low in the water to give a natural profile to trout. Fish these dry flies during a hatch of mayflies and when trout are sipping duns from the surface.

Sizes: 12, 14, 16.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great pattern for general search in ggod dry fly w I first read about this pattern in Tom Rosenbauer's Prospecting for Trout, which by the way is the most practical book on I've ever read. As Tom points out it is best used for prospecting in water hip deep or less. The spray of the hackle suggests the spread wings of both aquatic and terrestrial insects trapped in the surface film. The hare's ear is always buggy. The subdued collars never alarm the trout. The white post is easy to see for allowing great control..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hare's a Rainbow I watched the trout rise three times in succession to take an insect resembling a Parachute Hare's Ear. I removed the BWO that I had been using and replaced it with this Hare's Ear and floated the fly down toward the trout. The Rainbow rocketed to the surface and hit the fly. One fly, one cast, one fish - perfection! Fishing on the Bocq River in Namur Province, Belgium.
