The Story

Enjoy Orvis-endorsed lodging at Primland, a place like no other, on your fly-fishing trip to Virginia. The first thing you feel at Primland is the quiet solitude of being somewhere remote. At some point during the ascent to nearly 3,000 feet above sea level, one feels as if they’ve truly left civilization and entered nature’s domain. The 12,000 acres in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains that comprise Primland were selectively developed with a sensitivity to the landscape and the land’s needs. A place for anglers of all skill levels, Primland offers the experience of fishing on the privately stocked stream, The Big Ivy Creek, or the broad and forgiving section of the river in Kibler Valley. Seasoned anglers will thrill at the catch-and-release opportunities presented by unrivaled access to a six-mile stretch of the Dan River or in the wild tailwaters of the Pinnacles Reservoirs, known as the “Grand Canyon of Virginia.” Wily brown, brook, and rainbow trout await in the rippling waters as the beauty of the rugged, remote environment lures you in. All Primland guides are experienced, knowledgeable anglers for the region. Along with fly-fishing excursions, Primland is a recreational playground for outdoor enthusiasts. Enjoy sporting clays, RTV tours, horseback trail rides, hiking, mountaintop golf on The Highland Course, The Spa, stargazing from The Observatory, and more. Varied accommodations include The Lodge, Cottages, Mountain Homes, or Tree Houses. Regional dining is offered in three restaurants on site. Primland is the perfect retreat for friends and family, and is a genuine Southern-hospitality experience.

Primland offers various choices for accommodations: The Lodge, with its 26 luxurious suites wand a 360-degree view of the mountains; The three 2-unit Fairway Cottages nestled on a cul-de-sac overlooking The Highland Course; three Tree Houses located on a bluff 3,000 feet above Kibler Valley, and rustic mountain homes that range from one to 8 bedrooms along the ridges, offering either a sunrise or sunset view. For the outdoor enthusiasts, along with fly fishing, guests at Primland can enjoy hiking, biking, horseback riding, or RTV tours on the 90 miles of trails on property, 14-station top-rated sporting clays course and 5 stand, paddle boarding, or kayaking on the Talbot Reservoir, bow, air-rifle range, tomahawk tossing, and disc golf. During the fall and winter months, Primland, an Orvis-endorsed wingshooting lodge since 1990, offers European-style driven shoots and continental-style released pheasant shoots along with hunting opportunities for spring gobbler and whitetail deer. Play a round of golf on The Highland Course or relax and rejuvenate at The Spa. Dine on regional cuisine in one of the three restaurants on property and conclude your evening stargazing either from The Observatory or the firepit.

A perfect retreat to Primland is to begin your morning fly fishing in the cool morning mountain air, taking in the surrounding natural beauty of the land. Enjoy a lunch break with traditional pub-fare on the terrace of the 19th Pub. Spend your afternoon pursuing outdoor adventures, like a two0-hour RTV trail ride through logging trails or test your skills on the 14-stand sporting clays course. If your other passion is golf, The Highland Course offers challenging play along with mountain views at every hole. Retreat to the Lodge to enjoy a pint or moonshine in the 19th Pub before you enjoy regional cuisine at Elements or genuine southern cooking and live blue grass music at Stables Saloon. An evening of deep space stargazing from The Observatory's Celetron telescope is a must. Everything you will need is on property, the Outdoor Activity Center and the Pro Shop offer equipment and clothing. The team at the resort will greet you and take care of you with soul, heart, and a commitment to genuine Southern hospitality.

Primland is located on 12,000 acres in southern Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains.
