The Story

Capt. Tuck was raised in the Lowcountry. Since 2004, he has helped anglers achieve their saltwater fly fishing goals through guiding, hosting trips, assisting in building an outfitter in Beaufort, SC, and providing general fly fishing education. Today, Tuck predominantly focuses on guiding in Beaufort and hosting a few trips around the world each year.

Tuck has a passion for sight fishing and helping anglers take advantage of the shots they get on the fly. He understands that overall experience and fulfillment is incredibly important when investing in a guided trip. He chooses to guide in Beaufort because he’s spent a lifetime learning these waters and because of the vast saltwater playground it offers.

He fishes from a Maverick HPX-S technical poling skiff, which he feels is perfect for this fishery.

When is the best time to fish?

Tide is king here, so if you have a window when you think you can come, reach out to Tuck, and he will look at tides and pick the best options. He will also let you know what will not work as well in that time frame.

Which weight rods are best?

An 8-weight is most commonly used here, but a 10-weight is best during cobia season.
