The Story

The most important stage of the stonefly is the nymph stage, because it is more available to the trout as it crawls along the bottom on its way out of the stream to emerge. The adults are not as readily available due to their habits. This golden stonefly pattern is incredibly realistic and is a terrific searching pattern.

Color: Yellow.

In sizes: 8, 10, 12.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Nothing like the picture! I am usually happy with the flies I buy from Orvis, but the stoneflies I received look NOTHING like the picture on the website. Will try them, but I’m not very confident these will work, possibly scaring the fish more than attracting anything.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Unique fly It's well tied and cool looking. Hopefully it'll catch as many fish as fishermen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Suprise This is not a fly style I would normally buy. It came recomended and I could not be happier.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All species big fish I bought 5 of these two weeks ago and have caught 3 largemouth over 4 lbs, 16 crappie (all over 11 inches). On top of that I've landed rainbow trout from 8-17 inches. This is an excellent lure for a fly rod and is very well tied. I'm still using the same one with 4 more in reserve.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Realistic Representation Very realistic fly. Not quite as much attention to detail (e.g. dubbing has slightly irregular shape, is rotated off hook-center by a few degrees, etc.) as previous purchase of a few years ago, but still a quality fly that I would purchase again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Realistic They look just like this on the west branch of the Penobscot in Maine in June - except most are black. I'm trying Ted's Black Stone too. The rocks were crawling with them in July 2013 and if you through one of these down with the real ones you'd have trouble differentiating.
