The Story

See Alaska 'up close and personal' with The Boat Company cruises. Incorporated in 1979 by the McIntosh Foundation, The Boat Company is the only non-profit educational organization offering luxury eco-cruises through Southeast Alaska. With almost 40 years of cruising and conservation in Alaska's Inside Passage, The Boat Company has reinvested between $25 and $30 million into conservation efforts throughout the region.

The itinerary is flexible and spontaneous—tailored to accommodate your interests and fitness level. With one crew member for every two guests, you will choose each day from a wide variety of activities: early morning kayaking, beach-combing, trolling for king salmon or halibut, challenging hikes through ancient forest, gentle meadow walks, fish-printing, games and naturalist talks in the salon, whale watching, even (occasionally) relaxing on the fantail with a cool drink and a good book. Our guests don't just view the magnificent land from the deck as they cruise by...they get off the boat and touch it!

The Boat Company has spent almost 40 years cruising Alaska, offering small boat tours carrying just 20 to 24 guests. We provide a more intimate setting for our passengers, a higher degree of personal attention from the crew, and greater freedom to go “off-itinerary” and craft a truly memorable Alaskan adventure for you. The Liseron and the Mist Cove are the perfect vessels for your family vacation, fishing charter or wilderness discovery adventure!

M/V Liseron was built in 1952 in Seattle, sold to France as a minesweeper, and then acquired and lovingly restored in 1989 by The Boat Company. She is 145 feet long and 28 feet wide with a draft of 8.5 feet.

Several years ago, we built the M/V Mist Cove patterned on the Liseron but designed from scratch. She’s 157 feet long and 33 feet wide, with a draft of almost 9 feet, and constructed of heavy-duty aluminum. The interior is plush and stately with mahogany accents throughout.

Our food and wine program is second to none. Our chefs prepare every meal with love and attention to detail. We are able to accommodate most dietary restrictions/requirements. We also stock our vessels with great wine and top-shelf liquor. you won't be disappointed. Further, our trips are all inclusive so you won't receive a bill at the end of the trip for food and beverage consumption like many other cruise ships in Alaska.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An amazing and memorable trip! Our Alaskan cruise with The Boat Company is hands-down my favorite family trip that we've ever taken. Though I would not consider myself a particularly outdoorsy person, the beautiful scenery and connection we had to the natural environment were just breathtaking. There was something for everyone on this trip, and it was a perfect blend of luxury and adventure. Our guides were so informed, friendly, and accessible, and the food served on the boat was delicious. On our trip, we saw bears, bald eagles, whales, and gorgeous glaciers. I walked away from the experience with fantastic photos, a new perspective on how beautiful America's wilderness truly is, and a ton of happy memories from idyllic time spent with my family.

It's the perfect vacation for all ages!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrific Trip I loved being on such a small boat. It created an intimate experience with the vastness of Alaska.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Scenery and Food The entire crew was extremely professional, helpful and pleasant. The scenery and solitude was incredible. Being on a small boat allowed us to see things we never would have seen on a large boat. Everything was first class on the boat and we were treated superbly. However, some of the fishing guides seemed to have limited applicable experience and did not know more than 1 tactic or have tackle to try different methods if the primary method did not produce fish. Also, to ensure good salmon fishing, don't go in early late May / early June - we went too early in the year and did not catch any legal size salmon (we caught zero salmon in the stream with fly rods and spinning tackle). Also, if you are not wealthy, be aware that the tip for the crew is not included (their website did not mention this) and when it is well over a grand tip, that is something we were not prepared for (most competitors include the tip in the price).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hands Down, the BEST trip we’ve taken! We were fortunate enough to be on the Mist Cove in August for a remarkable week of exploration and discovery. Not a day went by that we weren’t in awe of the natural beauty that surrounded us; from mountains and glaciers to whales and eagles, we saw it all. Our experience on the ship itself was phenomenal. The accomodations were comfortable, very clean, quiet!, the food rivaled fine dining most anywhere. The crew was so welcoming, professional, kind, caring, and fun to be with. We can’t think of a single thing that would have possibly clouded this remarkable experience. If you get a chance, GO!, you won’t regret it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wild Alaska seen through expert eyes Y The Boat Company is an ideal way to experience Alaska up close - on shore, with the help of trained naturalists, or in a skiff along the shoreline, or onboard their beautiful cruising ships as they are explore secluded coves or nearby glaciers. Every day has 3 or 4 adventures awaiting, along with relaxing time onboard and first rate meals served in the elegant but relaxed dining quarters. Hard to imagine a better way to spend a week on Alaska’s coast.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent We chose this trip because it fit what we were looking for. Service was excellent and there were plenty of activities guided by experts. There was never a dull moment and the small boat allows one to go places you can't with smaller groups and have more activities with personal attention. Guides took us hiking, exploring, fly fishing, skiff fishing, kayaking, and glacier watching. Many times there were three activities a day and we had several choices.
