The best harness is one that fits well and keeps your dog comfortable. For an older dog or those with joint pain, look for a harness with a handle to help them move safely.
A harness with a chest clip works best—it redirects pulling sideways so your dog learns to walk with you, not against you.
Every harness is a little different, so check the instructions. In general: Slip your dog’s front legs through the openings, position the padded straps across their chest and shoulders, and clip the sides. Adjust the straps until the harness fits snug but not tight—you should be able to slip a couple of fingers between the harness and their coat.
