The Story

Enjoy Orvis-endorsed accommodations at Skeena River Lodge on your fly-fishing trip to Canada’s British Columbia. Located on the banks of the world-renowned Skeena River north of Terrace, British Columbia, Skeena River Lodge takes pride in showing our clients the very best of the Skeena Region. Guests have access to the best water on the mainstem Skeena and its famous tributaries, including the Copper and Kalum Rivers. With every cast there is opportunity to hook the fish of a lifetime! The lodge was developed by passionate anglers dedicated to chasing down the strongest sea-run fish in the world. From wild Skeena steelhead to monster Chinook salmon, our guides have developed the best techniques to bring them to the net. This is catch-and-release fly fishing at its best.

Skeena River Lodge is a park-like estate situated on the banks of the Skeena River. Guest accommodations are in single-occupancy cabins or rooms in the main lodge, all with ensuite bathrooms. Other amenities include a full-service bar and dining room, steam and woodfire saunas, hot tub, gym, game room, and a casting pond stocked with rainbow trout.

Tours are seven nights with six days of fishing. Guests will picked up at the Terrace Airport on Saturday afternoon and brought to the lodge, where they will be greeted by guiding and lodge staff. The head guide will provide a plan for the week, including where and with whom they will fish. Assignments are given nightly to ensure the best fishing opportunities. Departure times depend on season, but a basic daily schedule consists of:

  • Morning breakfast
  • Depart for fishing
  • Go fishing!
  • Lunch, snacks and coffee provided on river
  • Return to lodge in afternoon
  • Après snacks and beverages
  • Dinner and assignments for the next day
  • Relax –Repeat

The second-longest river entirely within British Columbia, the Skeena River watershed drains 54,400 km2 (21,000 sq. mi.) of northwestern BC. The river begins its 570 km- (350 mi) long journey from the Sacred Headwaters before meeting the Pacific Ocean in Chatham Sound. Due to its abundant salmon and steelhead runs, the Skeena region has long been home to the Gitxsan and Tsimshian people. To the modern angler, the Skeena is known as a fish superhighway, with runs of all five Pacific salmon species and wild steelhead migrating up the river at different points throughout the year. Starting in March we target the spring steelhead run swinging flies to chrome fish. In June and July, we bring out the big guns and focus attention on the Chinook salmon run, the hardest fighting fish in the river. Come August, the summer steelhead are running as well as all the other salmon species. This is the best opportunity for the Skeena grand slam! Through the fall, it's all about steelhead and Coho. This is dry-fly season and there is nothing more exciting than watching a wild steelhead crush your fly.
