Leather is a natural material that develops character over time, and with proper care it can last for decades. While Orvis no longer facilitates leather repair or restoration services, we’re happy to offer general guidance to help you preserve the quality and longevity of your leather goods.
• Regular Cleaning: Gently remove surface dirt with a soft, dry cloth. For deeper cleaning, use a leather-safe cleaner appropriate to the type of leather. Test any product in an inconspicuous area first.
• Conditioning: Most smooth leathers benefit from occasional conditioning to maintain suppleness and prevent drying or cracking. Use a high-quality leather conditioner designed for the specific leather type.
• Storage: Store leather items in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. For bags and luggage, loosely stuff with soft material to maintain shape. Avoid airtight containers, as leather needs to breathe.
• Protection: Consider using a protective spray formulated for leather—especially for suede or nubuck—to help guard against moisture and stains.
Many leather goods can be professionally cleaned, refinished, re-dyed, or repaired by experienced leather specialists. If you need these services, we recommend working with a trusted local leather care provider, such as a reputable cobbler, cleaner, or leather restoration specialist.
You can also contact a leather repair specialist online, such as Arrow Leather Care.
