The Story

Pattern developed by Fran Betters on the banks of the Ausable River in the Adirondacks. A versatile prospector, this hairwing fly rides high and dry in rough water and is also excellent for aggressive small stream brook trout, as are many of his flies. Color, Natural.

Sizes: 10, 12 14.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top dry fly I use it early in the morning when I first approach the stream, It often brings up a large fish.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great attractor fly. Well tied and brings up fish. This fly catches fish when nothing else seems to be working. Usually catches one of the bigger fish in the seam.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great design This is very close to a fly that one of our members ties and has such good luck with, I am not a fly tier.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for the mountins The Ausable Wulff is perfect for the mountainous pocket-water around my home. It rides high in the water and works great for the local brook trout. I find it works best in a size 14 or 16 for the mountain brooks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Fly I fish in the Northwest, and this fly was great this year just prior to run-off. Floats nicley on the water and holds up well after several fish.
